General Jeon led his son across the room, not even sparing a glance at the guards who saluted to him. They pushed the doors open and Jungkook quickly followed his father before the doors shut.
Jungkook stepped around his father who had stopped once he had gotten through the doors. They stood on a catwalk looking down towards a spacious room with a concrete floor. There were multiple rows of soldiers lined up below where General Jeon and he were standing. Men dressed differently than the soldiers walked calmly down the aisles, studying every mercenary's face.
Jungkook flinched as one of the officers suddenly gripped a soldier's shoulder and threw him to his knees. The man crouched down and whispered menacingly to the cadet with a scary look in his eyes.
General Jeon cleared his throat and made eye contact with Jungkook. The general started to walk away, but his son lingered a second longer than he might have been supposed to.
Hearing the clanking of General Jeon's boots on the metal bridge, the officer looked up from his crouched position. He made eye contact with Jungkook and squinted at him as if to yell for him to come down and join the others.
Jungkook broke eye contact and walked away as quickly as he could from the man below. He felt eyes on his back as he followed his father through another set of doors.
Jungkook released the breath he hadn't realised he'd been holding. His father was oblivious and didn't turn around as he turned down a hallway to his right. Jungkook followed, looking around at his surroundings occasionally.
They seemed to be in a network of hallways with intersections every ten feet. The walls were concrete here too, but Jungkook didn't question it. He liked the chilly interior of the base much more than the blazing heat outside. The corridors were definitely not the definition of spacious, but Jungkook supposed he would have to get used to it.
Suddenly they met the end of a hallway and Jungkook peered curiously over his father's shoulder as he opened a door. He flung it open revealing a room with eight beds, four on each side of the room. The cots were already made, each looking spotless.
"You can have either of those beds." Jungkook's father strode into the room while pointing to the last two beds on each row. "The rest are taken. You'll meet your roommates tonight when they come back from drills. Your clothes are under your bed."
General Jeon started to walk out of the room when his son suddenly grabbed his shoulder. He turned around and was immediately enveloped in a tight hug.
"Bye, dad." General Jeon nodded at his son, clapping him on the back. He left before Jungkook could see tears form in his eyes.
I sure do cry a lot these days.
----------------------------------------------------
Jungkook sighed and went back to his bed. He crouched down and reached under the bed. His hand met a box, and he pulled it out curiously.
Inside Jungkook found a pair of tan camouflage pants and a matching jacket with way too many pockets to count. He pulled them out, wondering what else could possibly be in the box.
Duh. Jungkook pulled out a white tank top and a pair of black sweatpants. He started to wonder what he would wear for footwear when he decided to look back under the bed.
He saw a dark lump and grabbed onto it. Shoes.
Jungkook dragged the boots out from under the bed. Timberlands. He smiled. I wear these all the time!
Jungkook took his time changing his clothes, seeing as he had nowhere to go. He looked down at himself, grinning when he found everything fit.
He threw himself onto the cot and decided to fall asleep again so he would have no trouble waking up the next morning.
----------------------------------------------------
Loud yelling sounded from outside in the hallway and Jungkook immediately shot up from his bed. The voices were getting closer and laughs mingled with subtle thumping as if they were throwing each other against the hallway's walls.
Jungkook sat down quickly so he would look leisurely.
A boy flung the door open. He was followed by five others. They stopped laughing finally and noticed the newcomer in the room.
Everyone was silent.
"Hey! You must be General Jeon's son, right?" A loud voice came from the back. A boy pushed his way through his friends and walked up to Jungkook. He held out his hand, grinning.
Jungkook took it warily. This roommate of his was awfully joyous. I wonder if he'll be like this all the time...
"I'm Jungkook." The boy nodded, grinning wider - if that was even possible.
"Hoseok. I'll be one of your roommates for your time here!" Hoseok finally calmed down, pointing to the other - silent - boys in the room.
"That's Namjoon, that's Yoongi, that's Seokjin, that's Taehyung, and that," Hoseok said, pointing at the last person. "That's Jimin."
Jungkook met eyes with the soldier he had seen earlier. Jimin smiled lightly, winking at the younger. Heat rose in Jungkook's face. He quickly turned away and coughed to cover up his squeak of surprise.
Jungkook said his greetings to each of the members. They seemed okay. He thought he would get along well.
"So what do you wanna do when you grow up, Jungkook?" Namjoon asked out of the blue. Jungkook cleared his throat, surprised at the sudden question.
"Uh...I'm aspiring to be a musician." Taehyung shot up out of his position on the floor, making Jungkook's eyes widen fearfully at the abrupt movement.
"Really?? Daebak. We all like music too!" Jungkook raised his eyebrows, making eye contact with Jimin accidentally. He snapped his gaze away almost immediately.
"Wow that's cool! By the way, uhm...what's wrong with Yoongi? He fell asleep and it's not even lights out yet. He must've trained hard." Everyone laughed and Jungkook became extremely confused.
Hoseok chuckled. "No, that's just his normal self. He may have worked hard today, but he's a natural lazy-bones." Suddenly a foot shot out from underneath the covers of the bed next to Hoseok and hit him harshly in the thigh.
"OWWWW WHY'D YOU HAVE TO DO THAT??"
No response came back and Hoseok rubbed his neck while he grumbled something inaudible.
"Lights out!" A loud clanging came from the hallway as a person shouted.
Suddenly the lights turned off and the boys were left in complete darkness. Multiple 'goodnight's chorused from around the room, and soon everyone was silent.
Jungkook rolled into his side, staring at the wall.
Why did I have to sleep so much earlier?
