Requested by Akira Matsumoto on Quotev. I must admit writing a gender neutral character was a bit of a challenge! Its still third person but more with Canada's perspective than the reader's this time. I also decided to use They/Them when referring to the reader as it can be used in a singular sense. However, there are several instances I use the plural form when referring to Canada and the reader. If you aren't sure which let me know and I'll either tell you, try and make it more clear, or both. Hope you all enjoy!

Mathew sighed softly in relief as the cool air conditioning of the school blasted his face. Most of the other students complained that the school still ran the AC when the fall weather was taking a turn for the cold, but he loved it. His brother on the other hand, did not. Alfred shivered and zipped up his coat and pulled his black leather gloves back on. Before Mathew could say anything to him Alfred ran off to a group of his friends. Mathew sighed and continued on; there wasn't any use in trying to talk to him now he'd act like his little brother was invisible, just like everyone else.

The school halls were already crowded with students chattering on about this, that, or the other thing. The blond Canadian didn't pay them much mind and continued walking with his head tilted down, trying to get to his first hour class. He unintentionally bumped into someone. He fell flat on his rump and blinked in surprise. "S-sorry!" His normally quiet voice was almost drowned out by the voices of everyone else in the hall way.

"No problem!" The person replied. "Here, let me help you up!" Blinking in surprise he took the offered hand. He wasn't used to people noticing him, or addressing him directly. His breath hitched a bit when he saw who he had bumped into. One of the most popular students was smiling at him. (Y/N)'s (h/l) (h/c) in slight disarray from being knocked off balance. "You ok?" they asked. Mathew nodded.

"Y-yes. Sorry again. I-I have to go!" Quickly he walked around them to get away. This left a slightly confused (y/n) half waving in the hall way while a few of their friend's watched, wondering who she was talking to and what she was starring after.

Mathew sat down at the middle desk in the front row of his English classroom. He buried his burning face in his arms. That had to be one of the single most embarrassing things he had ever done. "Great job Mattie. Great job. Bump into one of the most popular people in school, not to mention your crush and then turn tail and run away." Though, he reasoned, (y/n) would probably forget the entire thing soon, if they hadn't already. But... they had noticed him and helped him up. They even gave him one of their signature smiles. His blush remained on his face as he continued to think about the popular student.

(Y/N) was quiet the person to talk about in school right now. They had transferred to the school at the tail ends of last school year and quickly became one of the most liked student there. However, no one could really tell if they were one of the most popular guys in school, or one of the most popular girls. And (y/n) refused to tell, despite many having asked. They would simply reply with "Well, why does it matter? Boy, girl, I'm still me. Aren't I?" This stopped many a student and by now very few asked any more. Mathew knew for a fact that many of the students who asked were popular boys hoping they were a girl, in hopes of dating them. Of course, he didn't mind either way.

Suddenly he was thrown out of his thoughts when someone tapped his shoulder. Looking u he was met with happy (e/c) eyes. "Hey, Mathew, you mind if I sit here?" He was dumbfounded. Why was (y/n) asking him that? They tilted their head. "Did you hear me, Mathew? Hello?" They leaned closer, causing the shy boy to lean back.
