The Power of the Truth

Chapter 8

August's POV

Tonight, after my shift ends at 6:00, Emma is going to come to Granny's so that we can hang out, but the main reason, which she doesn't know about, is that I'm going to tell her I like her. When I told Hook, I mean, Killian! Dang it! That's gonna take some getting used to. When I told Killian about liking Emma, the wood stopped spreading as quickly. So, I'm hoping that when I tell Emma, the wood will go away completely.

We open at 7:00 but I have to be there at 6:30 to help get ready for opening, so that means I have to wait 12 HOURS! I just want to tell her NOW!

Right now it's 6:15 and I'm already dressed, so, I just need to eat breakfast and walk down to the restaurant, which only takes two minutes. It would be less time, but I move slower with two heavy wooden legs. I grabbed a bowl, spoon, milk, and cheerios.

While I ate my cereal, I was thinking about what I would say to Emma, completely coming up blank.

Once I finished, I put my bowl in the sink, and the milk in the refrigerator. I look at my watch. It's 6:28, I gotta go.

I run out the door, as best as I can, and head down the stairs to the restaurant.

"Hi, Granny. Hi, Ruby." I said.

"Hi, August." Ruby says while coming over and hugging me.

"Hey, August!" Granny says.

"What do you need me to do?" I asked Granny.

"Um... Can you start frying bacon? Ruby will you start making scrambled and fried eggs?"

"Got it." Ruby and I said at the same time.

Ruby and I walked over to the refrigerator to grab bacon and eggs to start cooking them.

"Emma is coming over after my shift ends."

"Oh, cool. I have a question for you about Emma."

"Okay, ask."

"Do you like Emma?"

"How did you know?"

"Um... I don't know, you're always hanging out together, you talk about her a LOT! And, when anyone talks about her you perk up, a lot. It's kind of obvious."

"It is?" I asked, nervous that Emma already knew.

"I mean, not VERY obvious. Only someone who knows a lot about flirting," She pointed to herself, "Could notice it."

"Oh, thank gosh!"

"Are you going to tell her?"

"Yeah, tonight. That's the hidden reason for why she's coming."

"Oh, well, I hope it goes well."

"Thanks. Me, too. Although I'm not sure how it will go. I'm pretty sure she and Killian like each other."

"Yeah, well, everyone knows that Hook likes Emma. But, I personally haven't seen any sign that says that she likes him."

I took the bacon off the stove and put it in the warmer.

"I appreciate you saying that, but you don't know them like I do."

"You're right. But, I know YOU, and you fight for want you want."

"Thanks, Ruby. I really needed to hear that."

"You're welcome, August. See, I DO know you." She said and gave me a long hug.

"Yes, you do." I said after we hugged.

Then I looked at my watch, which said 7:00. Then to verify that it was 7:00, Leroy walked in, and as Granny said, "Nobody gets between Leroy and his bacon."
