Mimi's POV:

The next week was the same as usual except for the fact that Cody wasn't there. He was gone till Friday and even then, he didn't look good. He had his head down all of lunch and piano and when I actually looked him in the face he looked dead.

"You look... you look... you don't look so good. Are you okay?"

"No, not really," he said rubbing his face and laying his head on his desk in Chemistry.

"What happened? You shouldn't be here. You should be at home sleeping."

"The school day is almost over. I'll be fine," he complained and sat up groggily. "What are we even doing?"

"You missed a big science experiment."

"Which one?" he asked annoyed.

"The bubblegum lab. I would work on it now if you can handle it. It's taking like 3 days to finish it." Cody's head bobbed as though he were falling asleep. "Cody?" I asked tapping his shoulder.

"Stop," he said grabbed my wrist harshly. I jumped and resisted screaming but he let go faster than he'd grabbed me. "Sorry," I murmured quietly and left him alone.

"Sorry," Cody spoke into the silence.

"For what?"

"I didn't mean to do that to you."

"It's okay. You're not feeling good. I get it. Did you have a good nap?" I asked chuckling.

"I'm serious. That was so rude of me. I shouldn't have done that."

"Cody, you're clearly not yourself."

"That's not an excuse."

"If that's not an excuse, then I don't know what is."

"Nothing. There's no excuse for treating anyone like that especially since you're a girl and you were just trying to help. So thank you and I'm sorry."

"Well, you're welcome, I accept your apology, and from now on, no more apologizing for being sick." He rolled his eyes but I saw a small smile come back to his face and I smiled back.

"Yes, ma'am."

Cody's POV:

I can't believe I did that to her. I'm such an idiot. And the weird part is she's still talking to me. Most people are scared of me when I get angry. And she seemed genuinely concerned like she knows I'm insanely sick; like really she knows and maybe even understands what's going on. I don't quite know what's going on myself other than the fact that that pill made me the sickest I've ever been, and that's saying something. I know it's not the flu, but would a human be able to pick up on that? Maybe Alex is right. Maybe she's not as innocent as she seems.

Mimi's POV:

After school, I went back into the forest. Too late, I realized, I had walked the same distance and in the same area as last time when I was attacked. Whoops. Oh well. I sat down and started writing.

Dear Dad,

Life's been fun. My friends made a big fuss over my birthday. Dominic gave me a $15 gift card to Starbucks, a bracelet, and some earrings and Autumn got me a lot of jewelry and makeup. Then Alex, one of Dominic's friends, took us to something called Main Event. It's basically an indoor amusement park with laser tag, bowling, an obstacle course, and some arcade games and stuff. I won at laser tag (against two buff guys: Alex and Cody), Alex won at bowling (obviously), and I won 500 tickets from a jackpot machine. And I got gelato. Best birthday ever!

Love,

Mimi

I got up when I was done and started heading back home to do my leftover chores. This time nothing happened.
