I anxiously paced my living room and ran my fingers through my hair repeatedly. Picking up a beer bottle I took a quick swig and told myself to breathe deeply. It was only two days after my apology to Jenna and she invited me over to hang out for the night. Saying I'm nervous is an understatement at this point. Running my fingers through my hair one last time while looking in the mirror I decided it was time to head out. The digital clock blinked the time 7:50 but the sun was still in the air, slowly making it's way to the horizon.
I sped walked down the front stairs and made my way towards Jenna's house. She didn't live very far from me but I left too late to make it there on time. Why I was nervous I had no idea but the nerves were coursing through my body at each step I took. My fingers vibrated with nerves and my breathing was shaky thinking about tonight. It's surprising to think I should be used to this after countless hook ups, but all of those were with guys desperate to sleep with the lead singer of a band. But none of that applied to this time around. Who even knew if she wanted that, this was just a hang out after all.
Wow I'm getting ahead of myself...
I shook my head trying to rid myself of every thought and nerve bouncing in my head as I approached Jenna's front door. I knocked quickly and took a step back shoving my hands in my jean pockets waiting for Jenna to appear. She opened the door quickly with a radiant smile greeting me. Her hair was up in a messy bun and small frame was wrapped in a large crew neck sweatshirt."Hey Taylor!" She exclaimed and eagerly grabbed my arm to pull me inside. Closing the door behind us she turned to me unable to contain her smile.
"So I ordered a pizza and got some movies out but like I got a lot of them so you can choose whatever one you want to watch while we wait." She spoke fast and jittery almost as if she too was nervous, but I quickly dismissed the thought and smiled at her nodding my head. She guided me through her kitchen to the living room where I noticed a small mound of DVD's on a table in the center. I kneeled down in front of the table and sifted through them until one caught my eye.
"No way you have Bambi!!!" I squealed slightly and looked up to her watching me with interest. She smiled and sat on the ground next to me.
"Yeah wow it's been so long since I've watched that. I almost forgot I had it!"
"Well how about we watch tonight then." I smiled. Jenna stared at me with a curious look in her eyes that I couldn't decipher. Before either of us could speak the doorbell sounded from the front causing both of us to jump at the sudden noise.
"Oh um I'll go get that!" She stood quickly and rushed to the front door.
Strange.... I thought to myself while waiting for her to come back. Something was up but Jenna obviously wasn't going to let me know. I shook off the thoughts once again as she returned with a pizza in hand. She placed in on the table and we proceeded to dig in until one piece remained.
"So Jenna," I started and watched her try to set the movie up. "What do you do here?"
"What do you mean?"
"Like where do you work or go to school or whatever you know."
"Oh! Well my parents used to be pretty rich and left behind enough for me to get by with a small job at the library. I only work two days a week since it's just a back up." I furrowed my brow as I took in what Jenna said.
"Where are your parents?" I asked hoping I didn't cross a line.
"My mom passed away a few years ago. I don't know where my dad went but he had to leave everything behind. Including me I guess." She flashed a small fake smile then stood from the CD player she was fumbling with.
"I'm so sorry Jenna, I didn't mean to bring that up." I stood and tried to catch her gaze.
"Don't worry about it. Let's get this movie started now." She walked around me and sat on the end of the couch. I sighed and walked over sitting close enough to almost touch her. I was dressed comfortably in a t-shirt and jeans but Jenna's house was rather cold for my liking. I was always one to feel chilled easily. As the movie went through the opening Jenna noticed and stood to grab me a blanket, turning the lights off while she was up.
Upon returning she motioned for me to move over towards the arm of the couch. I did as showed and she sat next to me putting the blanket on both of us and resting her head on my shoulder. Chills shot up my body at her closeness causing her to wrap her arm around me, seemingly trying to warm me up. I trained my focus on the movie not moving at all. In my nerves it took a while to get into the movie instead of being into Jenna. The movie went on without so much as a peep from the both of us, until Bambi lost his mother in the field. I could practically feel Jenna tense up when the gun shot blasted on screen.
Uh oh
"Hey Jen.." I sat up a bit trying to look at her face. "We can turn this off if you want to..." All I could hear in response was sniffling as she tried to hold tears back. I stood and grabbed a movie I saw earlier knowing it was a funny one from having watched it before. Changing the CD's quickly I went back to Jenna and let her lay on me and burry her face into my chest. My hands lightly stroked her hair as the movie The Fundamentals of Caring started up. It took a while to get to the funnier parts of the movie but once they started I could feel Jenna chuckling against my chest. In the middle of the movie Jenna lifted her head and looked up at me. "Sorry about that. I thought I would be fine watching but I guess not." She laughed slightly.
"Don't be sorry you could've told me to change it." I brushed her hair out of her face and swept it behind her ear. She stared into my eyes intensely and I found myself lost in them for what seemed like forever. Jenna leaned in slowly but I quickly found myself turning away and trying to slow my heart beat down. Jenna's eyes bore into me until she sighed and laid back down, re-focusing on the movie.
Once the movie was over I waited for Jenna to move so I could head home, but instead heard slight snoring coming from her resting on me.
"Looks like I'll be staying the night.." I whispered and wrapped my arms around her.
