With a groan I heaved my small frame onto a stool in the same local coffee shop Jenna had taken me to yesterday. Alan beamed his bright smile at me and leaned over the counter in my direction.
"What can I get ya Taylor?" He chirped. Looks like Jenna spread the news of my name around. Maybe I'll keep them thinking I go by Taylor instead of Tay so no one can catch onto my secret fame.
"Black coffee." I mumbled and rested my head into my palms and proceeding to close my eyes. My head was pounding after last night and the hangover was not doing me well, but I needed to get up and about so I could explore the towns area. The coffee shop was empty other than me and an old lady quietly reading the paper at a desolate table.
It was 11:27 am and the sun had finally reached the above the distant hills enough to illuminate the small coffee shop. Across the street a small library could be seen with a few people walking about inside. I gazed around the outside area a bit longer until Alan brought my coffee over. I shot him a small forced smile and took a sip of the steaming liquid. The hot air from the cup hit my face and refreshed my tired eyes a bit with its warmth.
Standing up I waved to Alan and headed out the front door turning right to head down the sidewalk. My eyes were fixed ahead seeing a jumble of trees at the end of the road and what seemed to be a lake.
Humming along I made my way over and sat on the ground in front of the giant body of water. I sat there idly tossing rocks into the water, some of them skipping over its surface in the process. I continued this for a few minutes until footsteps could be heard coming from behind. I rolled my eyes upon hearing the familiar accented voice call out a "hey Taylor!" The one and only Jenna promptly sat a little distance away from me and watched as a threw more rocks into the lake.
"Woah how'd you do that?" She exclaimed in awe. I smirked and stood with a handful of rocks, tossing them with more grace and making them travel even farther with each throw.
"Can you show me?" Jenna murmured from her sitting position. I looked down and observed her for a bit. She was wearing a light yellow shirt with little flowers dancing about it and black shorts almost reaching her knees. Her hair was thrown loosely about her head looking as if she didn't try to fix it when she woke up but it still came out perfect around her features. Noticing my stares she looked up with her light hazel eyes glinting in the sunlight. My eyes bore into hers for a bit longer until I sighed and motioned for her to get up.
"I can't avoid her forever right?" I thought to myself in defeat as I handed her some of the smooth pebbles I held in my hand.
"Okay pay attention. You really just need to flick your wrist like this really fast ok? The faster you do it and the straighter you can get it, the more it'll skip." I spoke while demonstrating what to do with my wrist before tossing another in letting it gracefully skip over the clear surface. "Now you try."
She looked at me in a little fit of confusion before tossing it with a large plop coming from the water. I rolled my eyes watching her try again only for it to fall into the water without moving again.
"Come on you just have to do it like this." I snapped a bit and walked over to her. I grabbed her hand and looked into her eyes telling her to pay attention. "So just move your hand like this okay? See how your wrist flicks like that. Good now just do exactly that only faster alright." I let go of her hand after going through the motions a couple of times. She tossed it towards the water earning two tiny skips across the water. Turning to me she smiled real brightly and exclaimed "I did it!" With excitement.
After throwing a few more smooth pebbles into the water Jenna's improvement was starting to show. "See you got the hang of it." I smiled lightly while walking around the edge of the lake with her closer to the water continuing to skip rocks out on the surface.
"Thanks for showing me how. I'll have to show Alex later!" She rambled on a bit after but I got lost in my mind and blatantly ignored her droning voice. Reaching a large tree with branches that over looked the lake, I leaned on its trunk and sighed looking at Jenna trying to skip two rocks at a time.
Reaching for my wavy brown locks I sifted my fingers through and adjusted myself. After playing around with my hair a bit I went to study my hands freezing at the sight. A giant spider stood idly crawling on my hand and I let out a shrill cry screaming "GET IT OFF GET IT OFF!!!"
I jumped around shaking my hand but the damned thing would not get off! I went to go punch my fist into the tree to kill the disgusting creature when I felt a hand grab my wrist.
"Don't kill it! What are you doing let me have it!!" Jenna spoke frantically as she held my fist in her hand. She cupped her palm and let the spider crawl into her other hand before letting go of me. "It's not doing you any harm see?" She held the spider out to me again with a small smile. Her eyes glimmered with a kind wonder to them and I found myself staring a bit until snapping back to reality.
"Get it away before I kill it!" I shouted at her. "What's wrong with you that thing is disgusting!! It was in my hair." I pouted and crossed my arms with a glare on my features.
"He probably just liked the smell of your hair." Jenna shrugged and bent down to let the spider crawl away. "Why would you be so cruel to something so innocent like this little guy." She sat there watching the spider and I huffed my breath loudly.
"Because I hate spiders okay?! Why don't you just leave me alone and play with spiders all day since you seem to like them so much." I spat and stormed off. When would that Jenna learn I didn't want to talk to her!!
