This is what life is eh? One minute you rule the school with your parent's spoiling you and the next you're stuck behind the counter at a fast food joint because your parent's cut you off. And to add salt to the wound it was Valentine's Day and guess who didn't have a date? This guy.
A ding snaps me out of my thoughts. "Oh man," I thought,"another customer."
"Hello" I greeted in a bored voice, my eyes not leaving the counter "How can I help you today?"
"I'd like 1 cheeseburger with fries and a salad" a sweet voice made me snap my head up, she was beautiful. She had wavy blond hair that was tied in a messy ponytail, she wore a sea green hoodie with a white shirt underneath and ripped jeans. Her eyes were currently scanning the menu above me but when she looked directly at me, my heart stopped. Her eyes were stormy grey and seemed as if they were calculating every move I made, her mouth was moving but I couldn't make out what she was saying.
"...hello?" I shook my head and stared at her "Umm, I-I'm sorry what was that?"
She shot me an annoyed look I said,"how much would that be?" I pressed some buttons and replied to her "That would be $15" (AN/ I'm guessing it'll cost this much...)
She stuck her hand in the back of her jeans and fished out a 20 then handed it to me "Here" I took it without breaking eye contact and handed her a 5 in exchange. She mumbled a thanks.
"So" I asked her "What's your name?"
She raised one eyebrow and answered," Annabeth."
Wanting to make small talk I asked her "So, what are you doing here all alone on Valentine's Day?" She looked at me warily, after a few minutes she opened her mouth to answer when another voice spoke for her "She's not alone"
A tall lean guy came from behind her, with his arms wrapped around her waist from behind and his head rested on her shoulder. He had black windswept hair and sea green eyes. Annabeth turned around and kissed him on the cheek. I won't lie, I was disappointed when I saw this. I was kinda hoping we could go on a date tonight but who am I kidding? A girl that hot would definitely have a boyfriend.
"...Hello? Where's my order?" Annabeth asked me, waving her hand in front of my face. Dangit! I blanked out again. Annabeth and her boyfriend looked at me strangely, I smiled sheepishly "S-Sorry, I'll get right to it."
Her boyfriend let her go and smiled at me "Thanks uhh" he squinted at my name tag, after a few moments his eyes widened "Matt?"
For some reason I felt awkward. The guy leaned over Annabeth and said quietly but loud enough for me to hear "How 'bout you go save us a table Wise Girl?" His eyes weren't leaving mine, which made me even more uneasy. She nodded so that left me and the guy alone.
He leaned on the counter while I called out their order. "Soooo, your name is Matt" he asked me, I gulped and answered "Yea,...ye...yes sir?"
He looked at me "Is your last name Sloan?" I was surprised "Um...yea...yes sir, that's my last name. H-How did you know that?"
He scrunched up his face "You don't remember me?" I quickly shook my head. He leaned closer "Remember? Percy Jackson, Tyson, you bullying us etc etc"
My eyes widened. I remembered scrawny weak little Percy, always defending that creep Tyson, and now he's right in front of me. He wasn't scrawny at all! The tight blue v neck he was wearing defined his lean muscles and.... Wait, why am I telling you this? I'm not gay!
"Oh, um, hey Perce! How's it going?" I asked awkwardly. He just shrugged "I'm doing alright. And just in case if you're wondering, Tyson's a general of an army now."
"Oh, um wow. G-Good for him" He shrugged once more, I sighed "Look, Percy I'm really sorry for what I did to you and Tyson when we were kids. It was stupid and I regret it, I hope you accept my apology"
He smiled genuinely this time "It's fine Matt, I've forgiven you a long time ago," His smile must be infectious cause I felt the corners of my mouth tug upwards. I turned around and yelled "Hey! Where's that order?!"
"Sorry!" I heard someone apologize in the background, chuckling I turned back to Percy "Sorry for the delay bro."
"Nah, it's fine" he told me while picking up two straw "So, why are you all alone on Valentine's day?"
I stiffened up at the sudden question "Um, actually. I don't have a date" I said chuckling "Oh look, here's your meal"
I handed him the tray and he took it with a smile "Thanks, oh um here" he took a piece of napkin out and handed it to me "Give her a call and Happy Valentine's day!"
He walked towards Annabeth and then shared a kiss. It was my break so I took off my apron and opened up the napkin, it was a number. So I took out my phone and dialed the number, my heart raced as the phone rang. (Italicized words is Nancy)
Hello?
My voice cracked "O-Oh um, hi? I'm Matt Sloan" Smooth Matt, girls definitely dig dudes that stutter. I mentally slapped myself.
I'm Nancy Bobofit, err how did you know my number?
I gulped, Great! Now she thinks I'm a stalker "My friend, Percy Jackson, gave it to me" I answered.
You know Percy?
"Yeah, he uh told me to call you."
Oh....Is there any reason why?
Sweat started dripping down the side of my face, why am I so nervous? "Um, do you have any plans for Valentine's day?" There was a moment of silence.
No I don't actually.
"D-Do you want to grab a burger later or something?" I asked her.
Sure, where do I meet you?
I told her the address of the fast food I worked at and sure enough after a few minutes she came.
