You woke up in a bright white room. You had to give your eyes some time to adjust because they hurt like you had been in the shadows for years. As your eyes slowly adjusted to the bright light you examined your surroundings. No needles or some kind of syringe on sight, just you and the hospital bed. Where am I? You wondered. You had never been in a hospital for years since you had joined the Avengers. It felt strange. The cloth of the hospital coat on your skin, the smell of the recently cleaned room, all that were strange to you, almost foreign.

After some long moments of loneliness in the hospital room, the blue metallic door opened slowly revealing a handsome but exhausted Bucky. He entered the room quietly and sat in a chair in front of your bed still mute. Almost every time Bucky had to see you even two days when you two met he asked millions of questions. That was strange.

After a while of you staring at Bucky and Bucky looking the floor you finally decided to break the silence.

"What is wrong Buck? Why don't you talk to me?" You asked.

He raised his head and he stared right in your eyes like he was trying to read you or something.

"You-you don't remember, do you?" He asked with a broken voice.

Bucky was always the one to make you smile when you were sad and the smile never left his face. Something very bad must have happened...

Then it hit you, Steve, he must have been hurt or something because otherwise Bucky wouldn't be so sad, he didn't care about anyone but you and Steve.

"Did-did Steve... Is he ok?" You asked with a broken voice too scared of the answer.

Moments passed and he stayed silent, he only looked at the floor.

After several moments he finally spoke: "(y/n)... Steve... Steve is..."

Whatever it was it must have been bad because it has so hard for him to say it.

"Buck. Just tell me, get it out." You said calmly as you stood up from the hospital bed. You approached him and sat on your lap. Right ahead of his chair. You put your hands on his knees and rubbed circles on them. "C' mon Buck, you can tell me." You said.

"Steve is...." he waited a bit, "dead". He said with a cold tone.

Your mind couldn't process this. "Wait... who is dead?!" You couldn't believe in your ears and you just needed for him to repeat it. It just couldn't be. I definitely have misheard, he will say it again and I will understand finally. You said all over again to yourself until you believed it.

You sat with yourself in your brain waiting for something that you didn't know. When he screamed:

"STEVE IS DEAD!"
