If you read chapter 7, this makes sense.
********************************
As I made my way to the lunch table, I saw Audrey and Monica both silently picking at their food. I said a small "Hi" as I sat down, and then proceeded to pick at my food in silence. I look up from my salad to see Audrey staring at me intently, as if she's trying to tell me something. I see her look at Monica, how is currently on her phone, and hasn't even said hello to me yet. And then it hits me. Audrey knows about the Nick-Monica scandal. I knew she was aware that they were dating. The picture on Gabi's website had just said MYSTERY COUPLE and then had the picture of them. I don't know how many people had made the connection, most of our friends dont visit Gabi's website, and Audrey knows about my crush on Nick. I confided in her after she helped me through some *breathe* personal stuff. My phone buzzed in my pocket, and I realised that Audrey was still staring at me. I looked down to see that it was a text from her.
Tell her
I am not going to tell her
Tell her, or I will.
I was not telling Monica.
"So Monica," Audrey said, catching Monica's attention, "what's going on between you and Nick?" I turned my head, unable to look Monica in the eyes as she looked between me and Audrey, her face showing she was absolutely dumbfounded. Being the blunt, honest person she is, turned back to Audrey and said "What the hell does that mean?" Audrey continued dangerously, "I saw you guys in the parking lot after school yesterday...." her gaze moved over to me, as I tried to avoid both of their gazes, one sympathetic, and the other raged.
"You believe her?!" Monica looked absolutely shocked that I wasn't saying anything. "I can't believe you,"
"I saw it myself, Monica,"
"Saw what? What did you see that made you trust her," she pointed a finger at Audrey "more than me."
"I saw you and Nick." With my statement, Monica started glaring at me with the same hatred she had with Audrey.
"I can't believe you told her!" Monica spat at Audrey.
"She didn't," I spoke up. A moment of sympathy and sadness flashed in her eyes as she realised what I said, and then her earlier look returned.
"You know what, I'm not sorry for what I did, you need to learn that not everything is about you. I know you have a crush on him, but so do I and you know what, he chose me." She smiled at me, and before I thought about my actions, I raised my hand. I heard the sound of the forceful smack, and the gasp that escaped Audrey's lips. Before anyone else could respond, I turned and floated out of the cafeteria. I loved Monica like a sister, I can't believe she said what she said, but I wasn't sorry. I would be, I would be deeply sorry in like 10 seconds, but I was enjoy my small moment of triumph. No one followed me, Thank God. I walked to the girls bathroom, opened the door, and slipped quietly into the closest stall. 3...2...1. I sank onto the closed toilet seat, and let out a quiet sob. I couldn't deal with this now. Not today, not ever.********************************
