"Finally," Bree sighs once Chase and I tell her the big news and everyone arrives home from the play. "I'm so glad that you two got back together! If you didn't make up, this whole family would have been torn apart!" "Well, now that that's settled, we need to figure out why Tanya wants revenge on Tasha," says Uncle Donny. "My sister was always jealous of me," Auntie Tasha says. "I never knew why. I still don't know why."
I feel bad for Tasha. I didn't know that she had to deal with this kind of stuff. I break away from Chase's soft hold on my hand, walk over to Auntie Tasha, and give her a tight hug. "We're all here for you, Auntie Tasha," I whisper. "Always." She hugs me back tightly. "Oh, sweetie," Auntie Tasha says, tearing up. "But they're after you, too." "That's right," Chase says. I let go of Auntie Tasha and look at him. "We need to keep both of you protected." "I'll protect my wife," says Uncle Donny. "Adam, Bree, Chase, Leo, Lyrica, you'll all be my bionic backup." "Well, what about Lyrica," Bree asks. "I'll protect her," Chase says, immediately. He sits next to me and puts his arms around my shoulders. I feel myself relax.
"Are you sure you can handle it, Chase," Uncle Donny asks. "I'll guard her with my life," Chase says, rubbing my shoulders. Uncle Donny looks skeptical, "Chase, are you sure-" Chase cuts him off, "With my life." I can tell that he means it. Donny sighs, "Okay. I trust you. You're my son." Chase nods. "Whoa, whoa, whoa," Daddy Douglas says, standing up. "Lyrica is my adoptive daughter. I think I should be the one to protect her." "Hey, guys, check this out," says Adam. We all look to see him lifting up a heavy kitchen chair with one arm. "Adam, put that down," Uncle Donny demands. "Okay," Adam says, nonchalantly. He starts to put the chair down but stops when he sees a box of cereal on the counter. He gasps happily, "Ooh, it's that yummy sugary cereal!"
He literally throws the chair behind him toward Daddy. Daddy gives a girlish squeal and ducks. Next thing I know, the chair is heading straight for me. I scream. Chase immediately uses his molecular kineses to stop the chair in mid-air, gently setting it on the ground. "Adam, you idiot," Chase yells. "You could have seriously hurt Lyrica! Are you insane!?" "Possibly," Adam replies. "Okay," Daddy says, embarresed. "Maybe Chase is the most qualified to be Lyrica's main protector." I giggle and snuggle up to Chase. He looks at me and smiles, "I love you." I chuckle, "I love you, too." I suddenly get a warm feeling as I remember when Chase said that he will guard me with his life. "Little Genius," I whisper, realizing that I haven't called him that in awhile. He brushes my hair back gently, "Yes, Princess?" I smile, "You're my Guardian Angel."
