It was sad knowing that I was leaving my home town and the house that I had grown up in but it was time for a change. I had been living with my Mum for the past 18 years all up until graduation so it was time to go and live with my dad and spend some time with him before I went to university in 1 years time.

It was a big change, leaving a busy suburb and then going to live on the peaceful beach side. I needed a break just for a year, to clear my head.

My room was almost empty after I had packed all of my things out of my room, it was bare and all that was left was my bed and my chested draws that had carvings all over the sides of all the names of my primary school friends. The floor was scattered with boxes and items that still needed to be packed. I was leaving tomorrow, early because I had a long drive ahead of me, 8 hours in fact.

The beeping of my alarm clock pierced my ears as I was woken up, today was the day, the day I left home. I got up and had a warm shower, as I stepped into the shower the water rolled over my body as it relaxed. As I stepped out of the shower the cold damp air made goosebumps grow the the surface of my skin. I got dressed and put on my favourite pair of blue jeans a comfy jumper with a pair of converse. I brushed the knots out of my hair and applied my makeup.

It was emotional saying goodbye to my Mum and younger brother Jesse who was 13 and in his first year of high school. The tears were flowing and mum was going on and on about how I am still her little girl and to keep safe and the rest of the nonsense that I already knew and had already a thousand times before.

As I walked down the front steps my eyes became foggy and tears fell down my cheeks because I finally realised that this was it I was actually leaving.

My car was packed because I did it last night, so there was no mucking around today, as I opened the door and hoped inside, I sat there and began to think, what was going to happen? Will I meet a boy? How will I make new friends? Will it be awkward between me and my dad? All of it became overwhelming and I began to cry again, but I knew that I had to pull myself together and be strong, I was a big girl now.

I started the engine and it roared to life. My brother and mum were standing on the steps waving goodbye, I could see there tears. I gave one final wave and pulled out of the drive way ready for what would be a long and boring drive.

I pulled up to a beautiful double story house with a white picket fence. A large balcony surrounded the house and out the front under the balcony was a decking with a welcome mat in front of the door. I slowly began to make my way to the front door not knowing what to expect. I gently knocked twice on the door, I heard faint footsteps grow louder as someone became closer. The door opened and there stood my dad with a welcoming smile.
