"Why won't you tell me where we are going?" I giggled nudging Harry as he continued driving.
"Don't Kelsey, unless you want us to crash." He chuckled, pushing me back to my seat gently.
I let out a sigh and returned to my seat, I spun my face to Harry giving him the puppy dog face as I plumped out my bottom lip fluttering my eye lashes. He chuckled at me patting me gently on the shoulder and telling me to 'stop it'. But of course I wasn't going to stop it, he wouldn't tell me where we were going. I wanted to know, but as stubborn as Harry was he wasn't going to tell me.
I guess it was a good thing that I didn't have school tomorrow and that I did get suspended for a few days. I knew my parents wouldn't be too happy about me getting suspended but to be honest I really couldn't care what they though, I was going to have the best next two days and nothing was going to interfere. Harry still hadn't told me where we were going as we continued driving down the road.
We had been driving for around about 40 minutes or so from my house, we had left town and were now onto one of the ranges. Heading upwards – I had been this way before but not at night - .
"I haven't been up here for a long time." I replied to Harry gripping my seat tightly.
"Are you okay?" He asked worryingly slowing down the car slightly. It had been ages since I had driven this way, ever since the accident mum, dad and I had always avoided this range. It was scary being back up here, I didn't like the fact we were driving on it, but with Harry driving I sort of felt safe.
"Umm, I think so. Just please drive carefully." I ushered to Harry. He could tell I wasn't really okay as he grabbed hold of my hand with his entwining his fingers between mine. I felt safe with Harry and I've never felt truly safe with someone else before, it was a strange sensation that I had never come across something new. Something I hadn't felt for a long, long time. He kissed the top of my hand before setting our hands back down on his lap.
"Can you tell me..?" Harry trailed off.
I let out a deep sigh as I stared to Harry not daring to look out my window which had the cliff edged side upon it.
"I had a brother, he was 8 years older then me. He had bought me and him tickets to go see a show, it was up a few towns also a few hours drive though. We had packed all of our things and were ready to go we said our goodbyes to mum and dad and left the house. We had only been driving for around about the same time we are right now, it was around 7:34pm. Jack and I had been talking, about what we were seeing and what we were going to do when.. When out of no where." Tears threatened my eyes as I tried to continued my story.
"It's okay Kelsey, you don't have to finish." Harry pulled my hand to his mouth kissing it gently once again, then letting it fall back upon my lap with his. Still intertwined together. I took in a deep breath as I slowly let it out again. I shook my head to Harry, I wanted to finish. I needed to finish, this was something I felt like I needed to tell Harry.
"Out of nowhere a car had come flying around the corner, I don't remember what model or anything like that but it was a large pajero. It had come flying around the corner in the middle of the road. We had no chance what so ever against the car." I took in a deep breath holding back the tears as I continued.
"We went off the side, front first. We had no hope of avoiding what had happened, so we went down. I was knocked out for part of it, but when I woke.. When I woke up it was pitch black and the car was facing directly downwards the top of the car had been pegged between two trees leaving us there. Trapped. I had no idea what to do I was 9, but I did what a normal 9 year-old would do. Turn to your older siblings to see what to do next, but I couldn't Jack wasn't in the car anymore. I was stuck in the car by myself and I had no idea where Jack was. And that's when I saw it, the front side of Jacks window was gone, he had gone through the windscreen. His seat belt had unclipped and he had gone through the windscreen. They said it was something they had never seen happen before. I looked around the car looking for any sign of hope of anything like that, and that's when I had remembered it. Jack's phone had been placed in the glove box before we had left. I leant forward as hard as I could unlocking the glove box and carefully removing Jack's phone from it making sure not to drop it. I dialled my mums number calling her screaming to her that we had crashed and that I was stuck and to get help. I was the most scared I had ever been in my entire life. I was stuck in that car being pressed against a straining seat belt.
After I had been rescued and everything, I had been taken back to hospital to be taken under treatment and to be stitched up. The seat belt had been so tight on my side it had cut through an inch of my skin. I guess all I can really do is sum it up in a few words, I survived what happened. Jack didn't." I trailed off as I had finished my last sentence.
"Sorry.. I kind of just mumbled on a bit.." I trailed off again removing my hand from Harry's grip, bringing my small hands to my face to wipe away the tears that had begun to flow.
"You don't have to be sorry for anything Kelsey, but I'm so sorry for your loss." Harry looked to me for a second and gave me a sympathetic look.
I hate when I say things to make people feel sorry for me, I didn't want them to feel sorry for me. I understand that what I had been through was traumatic but no one had to feel the need to be sorry for me. I was happy to be alive and I wasn't going to ruin any part of it.
"I try not to think of it in a sad way, I was given a second chance, someway, somehow. And I plan to live it to the fullest, for me and Jake."
I turned to Harry smiling at him as he took my hand and kissed it again.
"I have no idea how you do it. But you're so strong, and it's one of the things that I admire most about you."
Harry's words made me blush, he was so lovely to me. It seemed like I didn't deserve a friend like him. But he was mine, and I was glad. I turned to him giving him a smile as I looked out the front windscreen.
"So can you tell me where we are going now?" I giggled to Harry, returning my vision back to him again.
"No Kelsey. You're not getting through to me this quickly." He replied winking at me slightly then returning his eyes to the road.
We drove for a few more minutes turning off into a car park surrounded by a circle of beautifully flowered trees. Even though it was dark the light from the car head lights made the trees light up with beauty.
"We are here." Harry smiled to me, taking the keys from the ignition and jumping out of the car. I could just see in the darkness as Harry jogged around to my door opening it and offering me a hand to hop out. I took it.
"Where are we?"
"Somewhere my mother used to take me when I was little, its beautiful. But I'm going to have to get you to wear a blindfold first Kelsey."
I raised an eye brow in confusion to Harry but then nodding in agreement to him. We didn't really have a blindfold so Harry leant into the car pulling out a bandana from the glove box and asked me to turn around. He tied the bandana over my eyes making sure I couldn't see.
"I'll guild you, it's okay." He whispered into my ear as we began to walk swiftly down wooden steps.
