"Mary?? Mommy's here."

With an effort i opened my eyes and saw my mother. Her eyes were red from crying. Nathan was already awake. Watching us. My eyes met his i and felt unimaginable guilt as i looked away.

"Mary are you alright?" My mom asked.

I shook my head and tears started to flow. "It's all my fault."

"Mary..." Nathan said.

"No. Stop it Nathan. It's my fault. If you hadn't met me you wouldn't be here right now. I you hadn't loved me.... You wouldn't be hurt."

"Mary..." He started. "Listen to me. It's not your fault."

"IT IS!!!" I screamed myself raw.

Nathan waited until i had calmed down. "Again it's not your fault. It's my choice. It was my choice to love you. You can't blame yourself. It's why I'm here Mary. You're not just my girlfriend you're my life. It's why i risked mine for you. Because i love you. Truly."

I just lay there in my bed looking at the ceiling with tears flowing down my face.

"Mary he's right. To him it isn't just puppy love. This is a real kind of love you rarely see at your age. You can't just throw that away." My mom whispered to me.

"I don't want to hurt him mom. I love him as he loves me."

"It's his choice. It will never be your fault."

"Ms. Mendoza can i talk to you?" Nathan called.

My mother looked at me meaningfully and went to his side. I was too tired to eavesdrop but i saw my mother's eyes widen in shock and covered her mouth. Nathan immediately calmed her down. I heard the words heart, pay, mine, and replace. As i closed my eyes the last thing i saw was my mother embracing Nathan like he just became a hero.
