Chapter 6: New Beginnings
Amrita:
June 2017:
The end of finals week marked the end of a great semester and the end of my first year in the UK.
I had made so many friends and so many memories that would last me a lifetime.
And, what I was most thankful for was my boyfriend-slash-best friend Noah Griffith, who was literally the coolest person I had ever met. I mean, for me to admit that someone was cooler than me was kind of a big step, tbh.
I know we had a little bit of a rough patch when he was insecure about my friendship with Dev, but, like any other misunderstanding, we sorted it out.
And speaking about Dev, we haven't really been in touch after I hastily cut the call on him in January. But as for me, I don't really intend on keeping in touch with him. I am sure he is very busy with his work and so am I.
With great effort from my side and a lot of protest from my family's side, I chose to stay back in London this time in order to get a job as a full time columnist for a magazine where I write about, in lay man's terms, general psychology stuff (human behaviour, mental health... You get the gist, right?).
I would be starting off as an Intern, and hopefully, if everything goes according to plan, I could land a permanent job in the magazine itself!
Noah, Emily, Aman and I planned on getting an apartment together in London so apartment hunting was in full swing. We were looking for a four bedroom house within a 3km radius from our college and things were looking good. We had zeroed in on two really great apartments and were having quite a difficult time in choosing one out of the two.
The first apartment had a killer balcony view, was very close to college but was on the costlier side, whereas the second apartment was beautiful, well within our budget but was much farther away from campus.
With much thought and debate, we decided to go for the first house as we realised that the amount of time and money we'd be spending on travel would be much more than what we'd be saving if we chose the second home.

Moving day was finally here, and I had managed to clear out my apartment and fit everything I owned in around 15-20 boxes. Noah, who literally had 8 boxes only had already transferred everything to our new home and was to meet me in the afternoon with a big moving truck. We stuffed all the boxes into the truck and were on our way.
Moving away from my very first apartment was proving to be harder than I thought. I sighed and looked at it for one last time before our car made a right and the apartment would vanish from my sight for good.
I felt Noah's hand take mine. He took our hands to his mouth and softly kissed my fingers.
"It'll be alright, babe." He assured me.
"Yeah, I know. I'm just taking a moment to let this all sink in."
"I understand." He replied softly and gave my hand another kiss.
The rest of the week, we spent in getting adjusted to our new life. After work and all the free time we get, the four of us would spend it with each other.
Eating dinner together was like our thing. No matter how tired or cranky we (Aman) were, we would sit back, relax and eat whatever one of us had made.
Noah and I were, I realised, extremely comfortable with each other. Moving in together hadn't changed a thing between us, except for the fact that we were with each other a lot more than before.
