Sphynx hurled himself at the man, right after he turned into a cougar. He was in mid-air when he managed to twist sideways and avoid landing on the cat. Crashing to the ground, he gazed warily at the cougar before jumping up and giving the cat a hug.
"Rye!" he exclaimed in astonishment.
I had to make sure it was you, purred the cat before stalking away.
Sphynx glanced quickly at Amber who was staring at him with an amused look. "He still doesn't trust me to make my own decisions, see?"
Overcome with the fact that Amber, whom he had thought was dead, was right in front of him, he wrapped his arms around Amber, burying his nose in her hair. Taking in her pine needle smell, he breathed in deeply. She hugged him back, giving him a quick peck on his cheek. Laying her head on his strong shoulder she whispered, "I missed you too, I thought I had lost you when the man destroyed the town."
"Same here," Sphynx chuckled, giving her a squeeze before pulling away and looking closely into her purple eyes. "Brogan and Ione were captured by the man."
Sighing, Amber face became grim. "I heard about that, and I'm trying to think of a plan. But please, please, stay with me and not do anything rash? Promise?"
Sphynx grimaced. "Promise."
Changing the subject, Amber asked "How old are you now? I barely remembered anything when I was taken."
"I'm eighteen, well, turning eighteen. You?"
"Seventeen a couple months ago."
Wonder flooded through Sphynx. "How did you ever escape the man? His castle is so hard to penetrate, both going in and heading out!"
"It's...well, a long story. But first, I'd like to take you to meet a couple of friends..."
