So...um...Rye. How are you? Sphynx asked lamely, trying to break the awkward silence between himself and the cat.

Horrible now that you came, Rye replied curtly, resuming his cleaning his paws.

That was it for Sphynx. Why do you hate me so much? I've done nothing!

The cougar whirled around and hissed at Sphynx, Oh? Nothing is ditching us when we were captured by the man? Nothing is refusing to leave the homeland when the lives of the Mythara depended on it? Nothing is not shedding a single tear when your Ewynne died! I suppose you were happy, rather, then? Because it meant you could marry Amber without having a pestering insolence around you, eh? So, you've done nothing!

You don't know the whole story! Sphynx retorted angrily.

Do you know how much Phalyn really tried to protect you? Do you know how often she worried about you? She was a better Ewynne than anyone could possibly have and yet you rejected her. You were too blind to realize how much she cared. And when she died, you couldn't even give her a proper burial! Never say you didn't do anything, because you did everything.

Sphynx and the cougar glared, eye to eye, fuming with deadly anger. Sphynx didn't dare tell Rye the entire story, it was too dangerous. Despite having known him for so many years, he didn't grow a single ounce of trust for the feline.

Ache for his Ewynne suddenly blossomed within him.

Sphynx broke away his gaze and stumbled away quickly, before Rye could see the damage he had really done.

He didn't care any more about Amber, or her friends, or Brogan, or Ione. All he that filled his brain was the haunting words of Rye.

Faster, faster he ran. Blindly stumbling against bushes and trees. Tears were streaming down his face as he sobbed quietly. He didn't know how long it had been before he collapsed against an oak tree and fell into the state of unconsciousness.

But when he woke up, he was not in the same place as he had fallen.
