*This chapter is an account of the whole day.*
I sat up on the bed stretching my body. A warm feeling radiated within me. A glow as soft as a whisper. My lips twitched up into a wide smile. I felt...happy. Completely contented. My heart and my mind were at peace.
My husband's concerned face flashed into my head and another tide of happiness crashed into me. He cared! Behind all that cold cynicism, was a beating heart like any other...
Sliding off the bed, I ran a hand through the fabric of my dress which had ridden upwards. That was when I realized that I was wearing another dress. One Nicholas was going to bring for me. I gasped as heat flooded through every pore if my body.
Oh god, he changed my dress for me. My heart fluttered as unashamed excitement buzzed through me.
A discreet knock pulled me out of my exhilarating thoughts and brought me back to the reality of my room. Sheepishly, I looked around for any signs of my husband. But as expected he wasn't there. Even knowing that that was inevitable, my heart lurched in protest. A cold feeling started to nurture within me. My complacency was veiled behind my new, blossoming doubts--
Another knock, much more louder than before, came again.
"Yes?" Clearing my dry throat, I opened the door.
"Good morning, Your Majesty." An aging servant walked in with a food tray. "How are you this morning?" she smiled at me and carefully placed the tray on the breakfast table in the balcony.
"I am good and you?" I gave her a small smile in return.
"Good as well, Princess Dakota."
"Thank you, Leila." I nodded. "I will be back in a minute." With that, I started for the bathroom for a quick fresh up.
"Of course."
Finishing my breakfast, I went out for my mundane walk in the garden. Inhaling the scented air, I let out a sigh.
"Good morning Princess." A few maids, dressed in their ironed uniforms, curtsied.
"Good morning." I found myself beaming at them.
Grinning with all my might, I greeted several other servants and made my way to the sun lit library. My hand slid down the wooden shelves as I studied the numerous books pondering on what to read.
A soft gush of wind whistled through the room. I closed my eyes and embraced it as it stroked my body. A sob, as velvety as a mere whisper, broke through the expanse. It was so subtle that I almost missed it. But one whimper followed the other and before I knew what I was doing I found myself following the lament cry.
I walked further into the library and stopped in front of the cold fireplace. The young girl was bundled up in the corner. Her face was buried in her long hair cascading down her body. Her hands were wrapped around her knees and tremors rocked through her delicate form.
Mutely, I bent down towards her. "Are you alright darling?"
The girl snapped her head up and stared at me with shock and fear. My heart went out for the little devil who had haunted me for the past few days. She abruptly stood up ready on her heels.
"Wait! Don't leave." I grabbed her wrist.
She vigorously shook her head as fresh tears clouded her eyes.
"What is the matter?" I tried again.
Again, my question was answered with another shake of her head. I kneeled down in front of her with a sigh. "Do not cry sweetheart. All will be well." Cupping her face, I wiped the wet tear tracks with my thumbs. My words were accompanied by silence. "Why won't you talk to me?"
