(Duncan)

The five of us just kinda sit there. We didn't really know how to run a support group, and we didn't know if another person was gonna sit in that empty sixth chair. Personally, I hoped that no one did. I'm kind of a very socially challenged person, and I don't really like to talk all that much. I wage all of my wars behind my face and above my throat.

"So, uh, what should we do now?" The ginger, Simon, asks somewhat unassuredly and we all shrug.

"Well, we could go around the circle and say why we are here? Or, ya know, we could just leave that to ourselves. Until we get to know each other better." Kim, the short girl sitting next to Lewis, suggests. Personally, I think this girls very pretty. But, of course, I'd never tell her that. I've learned that words only hurt you, not help you.

"I think we should just talk about whatever. Maybe that way, we can get a good idea of each other." Lewis suggests, and Kim nods happily, her smile big, but broken.

Since I don't talk all that much, I've learned to study signs of other people's unhappiness pretty well. And I can very much detect that she's unhappy. In fact, everyone in this circle is unhappy. Very much so including myself.

"Do you guys like corgis?" Simon asks suddenly, causing us all to look at him.

"Corgis?" Hannah asks, her eyes showing her confusion.

"Yeah, corgis. Ya know, the dog. I've got a corgi named Mandrew. He's actually my best friend. The saying 'man's best friend' is very accurate, I've learned." Simon says and Lewis looks at him.

"Do you have any people friends? Just asking, because I get it if you don't. I don't have all that many." Lewis asks, and Simons sighs.

"No. I don't particularly like a lot of people our age. Their dumb and cruel and idiotic." Simon replies, and Hannah nods in agreement.

"Yeah. The other day, I saw some kids pour a bunch of red slushies all over some girl. It was horrible... I felt so bad for her." Hannah says, and Kim is looking directly at the floor.

"Yeah, that was me." She mutters quietly and my eyes widen. She seemed like a decent girl. A bit weird and too perky, you betcha. But she wasn't mean or spiteful.

"Are you serious? Oh God, Kim... I'm so sorry." Lewis says and she shrugs, looking at each of us in turn. Her eyes stay on me the longest though.

"It doesn't matter. People just don't like me. I always try and fit in, you know? Like, I never do anything wrong to anybody. I'm always happy and perky to try and get people to like me. But it doesn't work. People don't care. It doesn't matter though. It doesn't." Kim says and I look at her.

"I like you..." I mumble quietly and she looks at me. The others look in surprise.

"You do?" Kim asks quietly and I simply nod, feeling kind of embarrassed.

"Guys, we shouldn't be throwing a pity party for ourselves. Let's go do something fun. We deserve to be happy with ourselves and if other people aren't, screw 'em!" Lewis says, standing up.

"Yeah! I agree with you, Lewis. Let's go like bowling or something!" Simon says, standing up as well.

"Or we could just go walk around." Hannah says, a smirk on her face.

The rest of us stand and we all walk outside of the building. We start walking down the road, and onto the sidewalk.

"So, you guys are all in high school, right?" Kim asks, her perkiness level raised back up a bit.

"Yup." Lewis and Simon say at the same time, causing them to share a glance, a smile breaking out into their faces.

"Yeah, I am. And so is Duncan. I've seen you lurk around the hallways before, blending into the background." Hannah says, looking at me, and I just shuffle along next to Kim, not meeting her gaze.

"Well, I think that's cool. We can all hang out together now! Right?" Kim says, and Lewis grins.

"I think that's a wonderful idea. We can be friends, if you guys would like that." Lewis suggests and Simon smiles giddily.

"I'd be delighted to call you four my friends. I have a feeling we will be the very best of friends too." Simon says and Hannah nods.

"I'd like that. I'd like that very much." Hannah says and Kim claps excitedly.

"Yay! This will be so much fun you all! Wait, Duncan? Are you in?" Kim says, and all four look at me.

I don't like it when people look at me. It makes me think that somethings wrong with me. But these four... They've got problems, just like me. Maybe.....

No.

I won't give in that easily. Not again. I may have a slight crush on one of them, and the others may, in fact, be the nicest people I've ever met. But I will not let myself fall into a trap again.

I simply shrug and Lewis hesitantly places a hand on my shoulder.

"We are here for you, Duncan. Even if we don't trust each other at first, I have a feeling that we will trust each other with our lives soon." He says and I look down, and I pull out my phone.

When Kim sees me open the app, she nods her head approvingly.

"Hells to the yes. Let's go catch some Pokémans!" She says and whips out her own phone. She then leads the five of us off on a Pokemon hunting adventure through the park.

And, I will admit, I enjoyed it.

I enjoyed it very much.
