Dani crept through the vents. It was dark and sweaty and uncomfortable. Already her back had begun to ache from being bent over. Her eyes stared ahead in the darkness. Her hands and knees started to ache and she tried to not make a sound as her knees repeatedly hit the floor as she crawled through the dark tunnel. The sounds of her secret travel quietly echoed. Her hair stuck to her forehead and the back of her neck with sweat.

She then saw light ahead. She moved toward it, almost completely forgetting to be quiet. She heard him gasp from behind her in the darkness, hearing her reckless abandon. Dani didnt seem to notice. She pushed her face against the vent and took the deepest breath of her life, hating the dusty, dirty air of the ventillation system.

She remembered, how as a little girl, she would sit in front of the AC vent to feel the cool air on the back of her neck in the summer-time. "Dani," Her mother would say, "Dont breath in that air! Those vents are covered in dust!" Dani would roll her eyes, wondering why her mother ever thought she would ever breathe that dirty air.

Dani took deep breaths. She felt, much, much better. She glanced over to her left and saw him sitting there next to her, his head bowed as not to hit it on the roof of the narrow tunnel and watched her with envious eyes. When he realized she was watching he quickly tried to wipe the look from his face.

Dani blushed at her selfishness. "S-sorry..." She slid to the other tunnel wall, away from the vent. Kay moved in quickly. He gasped in the air just as eagerly as Dani had. She realized that she had looked like a crazed animal. She blushed again, not wanting him to see her like that. She was glad it was dark away from the vent, so that no one would see her do something as pathetic and girly as blushing, especially in this place.

She tried again not to start hyperventillating as she felt the claustrophobia creeping in. Once again she felt the walls shrink, and the air get stuffier and stuffier. She couldn't breath. She was trapped! She would never see the light of day again! She was burried alive!

"DANI! DANI!" A cold hand on he face brought her out of her panic. She opened her eyes after a few shaky breaths. She looked up and blushed heavily, realizing where she was. Kay had pulled her into his lap in his effort to comfort her. His arms were wrapped around her. Time seemed to freeze. Kay's eyes burned with an intensity that both scared and thrilled her. Her hands had landed on his chest and stayed there. They both stared at each other, finding something in the other's eyes. Kay's heart was racing as fast as her's under her fingertips. Hers was pounding in her ears.

Sheshad thought about a moment like this- in a deep part of still belilved in love. It felt like love. Here, in this horrible place, in a dangerous playground of horror, she had found love. Here, in this musty vent system, she found love. Kay's eyes softened, but they still held the intensity.

A hand of Dani's crept u the front of his wrinkled T-shirt. It found the hair on the back of his neck. He first tensed end then relaxed. His  hand that was on her shoulder moved up into her hair and the other that was on her mid-back slid down to her waist.  There was a small gap between their faces. Dani's eyes were half-closed, and her lips parted.

Then a horrible crashing noise was heard from below. Leaping apart, the two teens peered through the grate. It was one of the popular girls of the elite alliance, Catherine, Dani remembered. She had swung an ax with surprising stregnth for someone who never lifted a finger into the wall. She pulled it out and examined it closely, squinting her eyes.

The wallpaper had been torn away from the wall, and the metal underneath had a huge dent in it. For a moment, nothing happened. Then the metal scar's edges started to grow in towards each other. Catherine, Kay and Dani gasped collectively.
