I can't get over my kiss yesterday.
I've told Maya and yes, she also can't get over it.
We now sit here at the bay window admiring my ring.
"That's a nice ring you've got there" Maya tells me.
"That's like the hundredth time you've said that" I tell her.
"I know" she says.
We both laugh.
"Merry Christmas Maya"
"Merry Christmas Riley"
We then climb out the bay window.

Maya stops at the park which she painted a few weeks ago.
The wall has some graffiti on it that says hope.
In the park stands statues of 4 children holding hands.
Beside the statues is a bench.
We sit there for a while.

Christmas break goes by fast, and pretty soon it's December 30.
Tomorrow is New Years Eve.
I. Can't. Wait.

Since Maya's mom is now married to Uncle Shawn (dads best friend) Maya decides to spend New Years with her family.
It's gonna be my first New Year without Maya, but at least Miles is here.
We stay in the living room and do lots of random stuff until 11:30 pm.
At about a quarter to midnight, me and Miles head up to the roof to watch the fireworks. Auggie is already asleep, and mom and dad decide to stay inside.
We stand there for a while, when Miles says, "You know Riley, I never imagined that I would ever have a friend like you."
I say, "Well now we're even, cause I never thought I would meet anyone like you"
We both laugh. I say, "We're so dramatic"
"I know" he says. His facial expression makes me laugh so hard.
I'm laughing so hard, I don't see the crack in the floor, and -of course- I trip.
Miles catches me -again- before I hit the floor.
"Hey" I say.
"Gotta watch your step"
I laugh. "Don't tell me we're gonna recreate the moment we first met"
He laughs. I peek at my countdown timer. 15 seconds.
"It's almost midnight" he says.
"Then let's hope I don't trip again before then" I say.
He laughs.
10, 9...
"Happy New Year Miles"
8, 7...
"Happy New Year Riley"
6, 5...
He starts to lean in.
4, 3...
When,
"Riley?"
I freeze.
I'd know that voice anywhere.
2, 1...
My heart stops as the fireworks begin.
