"This is just bullshit, you know?" Jenna said, frustration obvious in her voice.

"No, I don't. Please enlighten me." Calum sarcastically (as always) replied.

"We're graduating in a few months."

"And that is supposed to be a bad thing? I can't wait until it happens, actually."

"It's not that. Of course I'm glad we're almost done with high school. But what's going to happen to all of us?"

"Well," Calum fidgeted a little so he could look directly at Jenna. "The band thing better work out because I can never imagine having to go to univer-"

"Oh, it better work out." Jenna cut him off. "How else am I going to get to travel around the world if I didn't crash into your tours anyway?" She had once told him about her little dream of traveling around Europe.

"Yeah I'm sure we could fit you in one of our suitcases." He brushed it off.

"What about Maria?" Jenna asked.

Calum tensed at the mention of his girlfriend, "she'll figure her shit out."

Jenna arched an eyebrow at Calum, silently asking why he just said that about his girlfriend.

"We broke up last week." He explained, bitterness clear in his voice.

Jenna was shocked. Calum and Maria were like the perfect couple, at least it seemed like it. She couldn't understand what could have possibly happen to put an end to their relationship.

"I didn't know."

He nodded, but didn't go further into it.

"Anyway, back to our subject. I'm quite sure Paige will end up becoming some neurologist or whatever."

"With that GPA, she can become a rocket scientist." Jenna commented, slightely jealous. Because seriously, that girl had time for EVERYTHING! She could manage studying, keeping up with her hobbies, partying, going out with friends and spending time with her family as if it were the easiest thing in the world.

"And as for you.. Honestly, I have no idea what you want to do after we graduate."

Jenna didn't really like talking about the plans she's made for her future- mostly because she hadn't figured anything out yet- so it was not surprising that Calum didn't know about it.

"Me neither."

Calum didn't know how to respond to that. He didn't have anything planned out yet. Sure, he has applied for colleges, but he really couldn't imagine himself doing anything besides making music, and he didn't want to dwell on that now. He had plenty of time to worry about it later.

"But, if there's one thing I'm certain about, it's that I won't ever allow myself to be stuck in this place." Jenna added.

"Why?"

"I hate it here. I hate the houses, the same exhausting routine, the people and their stupid beliefs. I hate it all."

"I don't know about that. I mean, I grew up here. It's hard to just let go of it like that."

"No, it isn't. Trust me, a few years from now, everyone of that little group of ours would be doing something different. Everyone would start their own family and make new friends. And maybe one day two of this stupid clique would meet at some old, forgotten bar and not recognise each other."

"Not morbid at all." A slight smirk creeped up on his face as he looked at the forever-frustrated-of-life Jenna.

"Stop being sarcastic for once, please. Do you really think high school friends last?"

"It depends." Calum laid back in his seat, wondering how they moved from discussing hot teachers to this.

Jenna sighed, shaking her head. Why couldn't he just take her seriously for once?

"Don't think about it too much, Jenna. If two people are meant to keep a good friendship, they will, despite distance and jobs and families and all that shit. If they can't, well then, good riddance."

She thought that he did have a point, but she would never admit it. It wasn't like she had the greatest set of friends, but it still felt weird to think that after a year or so, she would lose touch with most of them, and they would become "people she used to know."

And the real question was, would Calum be one of them?

...

"We should probably go get ready for school." Jenna nudged him after checking her phone, to find out it was ten past six.

"It's still early." Calum--who had fallen asleep an hour ago--replied, not even bothering to open his eyes.

"Whatever, I'm going down, okay?" Jenna didn't have the heart to forcibly wake him up. He wasn't able to get a proper night sleep because of her anyway, so when he had fallen asleep next to her when they were out of things to talk about, she just smiled and went to get him a blanket, and sat beside him, drowning in her own thoughts.

"Alright." He mumbled and snuggled deeper into the fabric of the blanket.

Thirty minutes later, Calum came down from the roof. His hair messed up and his eyes still half-closed.

"Why the hell did you let me sleep over there?" He called out, unable to find Jenna in the big house.

"I didn't want to bother you, again." He could hear her voice coming out of the kitchen.

"Morning." He muttered, entering the kitchen.

"Morning. There's some toast on the counter, if you want." She told him as she ate her own breakfast, which consisted of toast, jam and orange juice.

"No, thanks. I better get going."

"Hey, Calum.." Jenna blurted out right before he walked out of the front door.

"Thanks for.. erm, keeping me company." She didn't know why she felt the need to tell him that. She was the one who asked him to come over in the first place.

"Anytime." He smiled, closing the door behind him.

He would never tell Jenna that it wasn't her music that woke him up. He would never tell her that he had actually set an alarm to check up on her. He would never tell her that he always does it when he knows she is alone in the house because he knows she's an insomniac, and he wanted to make sure that if she wasn't asleep, at least she was having a nice night. And he would difinetely happily hang out with her whenever she asks him to.

She was his oldest friend, after all. Eighteen years and counting.
