From the moment they got engaged, Percy and Annabeth always had creative talks about their future children. Neither were sure if the kids would inherit Percy's water abilities or Annabeth's strategic abilities. They'd heard experiences from older demigods who's kids did get their powers and about kids who lived normal lives without getting their powers. One thing that Percy and Anmabeth agreed on though, was that if their sons or daughters did inherit their powers, the sons would Percy's abilities and the daughters would get Annabeth's skills. Neither were being sexist, they just believed that the children of their gender would share a closer bond with them. Needless to say when their first children were fraternal twins, a boy and a girl, the couple was quite excited to see what the future had in store for them.
The two children, Luke and Silena, grew up very close with each other. They often did almost everything together and they were very protective of the other. As they years went on, Percy and Annabeth slowly started introducing their passions to the kids. Annabeth bought building blocks and other creative supplies for both kids to enjoy, but she made sure they stayed in Silena's room. And while Percy would spend hours in their backyard pool with both kids, there were quite a few incidences where he left Silena inside with her mother so he and Luke could have "father-son" bonding time. Even as little kids, the pair of siblings could tell that something was up. While Luke enjoyed swimming, his emotions for it didn't come near the level of love his sister had for it. Silena thought building was cool, she didn't hate it or anything; Luke lived for designing buildings and for making plans. Nothing satisfied him more when he came up with an idea for something and then was able to successfully complete it. Neither knew how to break this news to their parents though, both felt like it could break their parents heart. Finally though, they came up with an idea.
It was during a family game of hide and seek. While their parents were counting to 100, Luke snuck off to his room where he set a few booby traps before hiding in his closet. Silena on the other hand, who had been wearing a swimsuit just for this occasion, hid her clothes and then slipped into the pool where she could breath just fine despite being in water. When the adults finally reached 100, they began to search. First they searched their bedroom, then the living room, followed by the dining room, which came before the hallway closet, and finally they reached the kids rooms. They looked in Silenas first and found it empty. Next they checked Luke's room.
From the second they walked through the doorway, a trip wire caused a slingshot to fire stuffed animals at the two parents.
"She's gotta be in here," Annabeth said with excitement. "Be careful about where you step." Making his way over to the bed, Percy got onto the ground and pulled the cover up. He quickly had to move his head back because a wire caused a race car to come rocketing towards his face.
"She's gotten good at this," Percy said as he stood back up.
"She really has," Annabeth said as she reached for the closet door. "My mom is going to be so excited to hear that her grand," before she could finish her sentence, she swung the door open. "Son." Percy spun on the balls of his feet and a look of surprise appeared on his face when he saw his son in the closet.
"Luke, you set up all this up?" He asked in shock.
"Guilty as charged," Luke said in response with a sly smile on his face.
"Does that mean," Annabeth couldn't even finish her sentence before Percy sprinted out of the room. Racing through his house, Percy pulled his shirt off and sprinted into the backyard. Cannon balling into the pool, he swam to the bottom of the pool where he found Silena casually sitting criss-crossed in the corner. Pulling her into a hug, they swam back to the top where Luke and Annabeth were waiting. Sharing a look, Percy and Annabeth both started laughing.
"Well they got our skills," Percy said once he caught his breath. Annabeth nodded before she added,
"They certainly did." She said. "We were the ones who were just a little mixed up about who would receive what skill." From that day on, the siblings still spent plenty of time with each other but they also were able to freely chase their real passions.
