Luke and Thalia Jackson were twins and the only children of Percy and Annabeth Jackson. Luke was a little over a minute and a half older than his sister and he never let her forget it. From the time they were born, Luke was always very protective of his sister. Thalia could take care of herself, and she often argued with Luke when she felt like he thought she couldn't, but there was a part of her that secretively loved how Luke was protective because it told her that he cared.
As the twins grew, they drifted apart. They still loved each other dearly and neither minded hanging out with each other; it was just that they had different passions which led to them joining different friend groups. By the time they were juniors in high school, the two rarely had any time to spend together. Luke was busy with swim team (he competed fairly without using his power over water), school work, and just hanging with his friends. Thalia on the other hand joined the schools academic decathlon team, was a tutor at the local middle school, had her own school work to manage, spent time with friends, and finally she had boys lining up to ask her on a date. Originally she kept turning them down; Thalia wanted to focus on her passions and friends, not on dating. Finally though, there was one suitor that she could not turn down.
Timothy Lawson was one of the most popular boys in their grade. He was captain of the baseball team and made the honor roll every semester. So when he created an elaborate scavenger hunt around the school that involved roses, chocolates, and an adorable little puppy, just to ask Thalia out, she couldn't say no. They made plans for the upcoming Friday; all Timothy would tell Thalia was that she needed to wear a bathing suit under her clothes. Thalia was elated that Timothy asked her out and her parents tried to be supportive of her. Percy was protective of his daughter but after Annabeth reasoned with him, he said that she could go on the date as long as he got to meet the boy first. Luke though was skeptical about the whole situation; he did not approve of his sisters suitor.
Timothy was a known player and a proud one at that. Luke tried to bring this up with Thalia but instead of listening, she got mad and told her brother to stay out of her business. Though what she said hurt him, Luke wasn't mad at his sister. He knew that she wanted to believe that Timothy was a good guy and because of that, anyone who said otherwise made her angry. Instead of getting down in the dumps, Luke swore to himself that he would find a way to protect Thalia.
Friday night came to slowly for Thalia and to fast for Luke. Before he knew it, he was sitting at the top of the steps while listening to Timothy suck up to his parents. Once they finally left, Luke waited five minutes, went downstairs, told his parents he was meeting some friends at the movie, and then left. When he got into his car he quickly pulled out his phone; using the "Find iPhone" app, he started to track where Timothy was taking Thalia. He felt slightly guilty for spying but he promised himself that he was doing the right thing; he could apologize to his sister later. Following the directions his phone gave him, Luke ended up at the local beach. After parking at the opposite end of the lot from where Timothy had parked, Luke got out of the car and started towards the water. He had come prepared, in a bathing suit of his own, so he had no problem getting into the ocean.
Luke swam a bit past the breaking point of the waves and then started to swim while looking for his sister. It didn't take long for him to spot them. Despite hating Timothy, even Luke had to admit that the boy was smooth. Timothy had set up a candle-light picnic. While still swimming, Luke kept a close eye on the duo.
As the night went on and nothing bad happened, Luke started to feel foolish. The few kisses that the couple exchanged seemed innocent enough, though Luke wasn't a fan of them either way, and the two seemed to be having a genuinely fun time together. Just as he was considering leaving, Luke saw Timothy stand up and take his shirt off. Offering a hand to Thalia, Timothy helped her up. Luke couldn't hear what was being said but he was able to see Timothy motioning towards the ocean. After Thalia pulled her cover up off and revealed her bikini, Luke saw Timothy look her body up in down in a lustful manner. Thalia missed this though. Grabbing her hand, Timothy started playfully pulling Thalia to the water. Quickly ducking under water, Luke felt a sudden rush of gratitude about his ability to breathe in water. Swimming so he was slightly farther away from the pair, Luke stuck his eyes out of the water so he could watch their interaction.
Timothy and Thalia were just up to their knees in water; they seemed more focused on taking and splashing the other than they did in swimming. Luke watched as Timothy casually crept his way closer and closer to Thalia. It looked like he was just playing, he only moved when he was splashing her, but Luke had a bad feeling about Timothy's intentions. When he was close enough, Timothy casually wrapped an arm around Thalia's waste and pulled her farther into the water with him. Luke saw Timothy's hand creep lower than it should on his sisters body and felt relieved when he saw Thalia grab the hand and move it farther up. Timothy was relentless though; as his hand kept trying to go lower, his head moved until he was right by Thalia's ear. Luke couldn't hear what the boy was saying but Thalia's shocked reaction, which included her pulling away from Timothy, told him that it wasn't anything appropriate. Deciding enough was enough, Luke decided to take action.
As his anger at his sisters jerk of date rose, so did a wave in the making. Luke followed its path to the shore closely. Timothy was facing the beach, as he kept trying to make advances on Thalia. Thalia on the other hand was looking out at the ocean though; her eyes widened at the sight of the wave. With a final yank away from Timothy, Thalia moved out of the way just as the wave crashed into her date. Within seconds of the wave hitting Timothy, Luke was standing in front of him. Thalia watched in shock as her brother threw a hard punch at Timothy's face, which ended with a satisfying punch.
"If you ever come near my sister again, you'll find yourself much worse off than you are now." Luke snarled at a soaking wet, confused, and terrified looking Timothy. "She's way out of your league and I never want to hear about you bothering her again. Understood?" Timothy nodded rapidly. "Good, now get the f*ck out of here." Luke didn't need to repeat himself; Timothy sprinted towards the beach. Ditching the picnic basket and blanket, all Timothy grabbed was his shirt and car keys before he made his way to the parking lot.
Luke slowly turned to face his sister, not sure what reaction he would get out of her. Instead of the anger he feared she would express, Luke was in for a surprise when Thalia threw her arms around him in a hug. He willingly returned it though. Neither sibling said anything; they just stood there with the comfort of the other. Finally pulling away, Thalia said,
"I'm sorry I didn't listen to you," her eyes were damp as she spoke. "And for everything I said; gods I'm such a horrible sister." Luke immediately shook his head.
"Don't say that," he told her. "You're the best sister I could ever wish for; I know you didn't mean anything you said. " Giving her brother another hug, Thalia whispered,
"Thanks for always being there for me Luke." With a smile, Luke responded by saying,
"I promise that I'll always be here for you." With the the siblings made there way back to Luke's car and then they went home. After cleaning up, they changed into pajamas and had a movie marathon just like they used to as kids.
