Percy wanted to make sure that his and Annabeth's kids got the chance to know all of their family members. From frequent visits to Paul and Sally's place, to seeing Poseidon occasionally at holidays and at the beach; he wanted their kids to know that their whole family loved him. He had one family member though that was to scared to meet the kids though. Tyson knew that all of his brothers kids could see through the mist and he was worried that they would be scared of him. Both Percy and Annabeth tried to reason with him, they both knew that the children would love him, but he didn't believe them. Finally, after much begging, Percy managed to convince Tyson to come to their eldest sons 10th birthday party. Tyson agreed on the condition that Percy let him wear sunglasses for the entire day, that way neither of Percy's sons would see his eye. When the day of the party arrived, Tyson was the first guest to arrive. The moment Percy opened the door and saw that it was him, he automatically pulled his brother into a hug.
"Ethan, Bob, can you guys come downstairs for a minute," Percy shouted up to his two boys. "I have someone special for you guys to meet." It didn't take long before the two boys were racing down the steps. As the eldest, Bob managed to beat Ethan by a few steps. The laughing expressions on the boys faces when they saw the stranger standing next to their father.
"Dad," Bob asked slowly. "Who's this?" Percy grinned, before he said the sentence he'd been waiting to say for a long time.
"This is my brother, which means your guys uncle, Tyson." Though he two kids found it odd that they were just now, neither particularly cared about the reason, so they both shrugged and then wrapped Tyson into a big group hug. Bending over so he could embrace his nephews, Tyson felt a familiar bond of family that he always felt by Percy. Unwilling to lie to his nephews, despite his previously stubborn decision to not tell them the truth about his identity, Tyson decided to take a chance.
"Um Bon, Ethan, I have a bit of a secret to tell you guys." The two boys pulled away and looked at Tyson curiously. "I know you guys know how your mom and dad are special, and well, I sort of come from the same place as them. But it's probably better to call me different than special, because I'm different in a way that's not quite as cool," Tyson stuttered as he tried to get the truth out.
"Say it already," Bob said. He wasn't trying to be rude, he was just a bit impatient and extremely curious. Percy was able to scold his eldest son when Ethan spoke up.
"I promise that we'll love you no matter what," it was this comment from the young six year old that made Percy awe and gave Tyson the final push of encouragement that he needed. Removing the sunglasses from his face, Tyson revealed his one eye.
"I'm a cyclops," he admitted. His tone was downcast and he refused to make eye contact with either of the boys. "I don't blame you if you're disgusted by me." For a moment the kids were silent, but then Bob blurted out,
"That's so cool." Tyson looked up from the ground.
"You don't hate me?" Tyson asked, very confused and shocked. Ethan answered for his older brother.
"Of course we don't hate you silly," as he spoke he gave Tyson another hug. "I think it's awesome that you're a cyclops. It makes you extra special." Pulling away from the hug so he could look Tyson in the eye, he added, "besides, I told you we'd love you no matter what and I'm no liar." With that, all of Tyson's fears drifted away and he was able to spend the rest of the day without a worry. And from then on out, whenever Percy and Annabeth wanted to go on a date, the kids always begged their parents to have cool uncle Tyson come babysit them.
