The Search Pt.1

I am sitting at a table of a café I used to go to when I got a call from Red Herring, a private investigator I had hired when I found out Pinkie went missing. I have been meeting up with him every now and then hoping for a clue as to where Pinkie might be, but after while my studies got in the way and I just couldn't take the risk of losing the opportunity to become a geologist. I just hate how selfish I was "Haven't seen in a while, how ya, been?" Red Herring startled me as he sat down. He was wearing a trench coat and a fedora with a red feather in it, if I didn't know any better I would have thought him to be a gangster "I got your voice mail." I said in my usual monotonous voice "Just like when you hired me... straight to the point, huh?" he chuckled "Turns out your sister had a job before she ran away again, she was employed by a woman of the name, Cherry Jubilee." just hearing that made me smile but I really hope there was more.

"Well look at that, you do smile." he said as a waitress I recognize to be Espresso Pudding approached us "May I get you two anything? A scone, a muffin perhaps?" she suggested "A scone sounds delightful and make sure you charge whatever my friend is having to my bill." he said with a small wink "Got it.... Maud?" she said looking at me "Some ice coffee, please." I answered once again in my plain voice. Before she could go however Red Herring stopped her "You may not believe this but she actually smiled." Espresso gasped and glanced at me before going back inside "There's more, if you're wondering." I raised an eyebrow to show he had my attention "It may be a long shot but one of the people I spoke to, said they saw her near the rock quarry at the edge of a city in California." and once again, knowing something made me smile.

"Why are you crying Maud?" Pinkie asked making a pouty face "I'm okay Pinkie. There is nothing to worry about." I said wiping the tears off my face "Want to play dolls ?" she asked excited "Yes." I said taking her hand and Something that made a crashing sound brought me back to reality "I'm so sorry you two, I was just shocked is all." Espresso said crouching down to pick up a platter she dropped "It's alright darling," it wasn't long until I noticed most of the damage happened to Herring since he was covered in the coffee that I ordered "just charge another scone and another cup of coffee to my bill and get me some napkins." he said adjusting his hat "Okay." Espresso said quietly and went back inside "You okay Maud?" he asked wiping some coffee off his face "Why do you ask?" I said after getting over my initial shock.

Herring shrugged and threw away his napkin "Don't know, you just went blank after I gave you the good news." he chuckled while leaning forward "Oh, I was just walking down memory lane is all." I said clasping my hands together and for a couple seconds it was silent before he placed his hands on mine "I'll keep looking," his voice was sincere as he spoke "just like I kept looking for my daughter. I hope you don't mind but I've also started looking into finding your youngest sister." my eyes widened at the mention of Marble. A smile appeared on his face "Not much I could find out about her or her family but I do know where she is and that she is doing well."

"Where!?" I shouted standing up "She lives two towns over. Gotta say, she was easier to find than Pinkie, given the fact that I was able to get some help from someone who worked inside the orphanage you told me about." he said standing up as Espresso came back out "I gotta go, hope you can make something of what information, I gave you on Pinkie." he said handing me a slip of paper along with a blue envelope "Wait, sir... what about your scone?" Espresso called out handing me my coffee "Give it to the girl." Herring swung his jacket over his shoulder "....but whose going to pay!?" she yelled back while waving her arms frantically. After seconds of silence he yelled back "Open up a tab under my name!" and kept walking "I'll pay." I said knowing this café doesn't give any tabs.
