"Is this really necessary Niall?" Liam groaned as Niall demanded another game of foosball.
Niall motioned with his hands and started to reset the game. "Cmon, I know I can win."
"One too many drinks for you, Irish," I joked, shaking my head. Harry and I played pool right next to them, where I had a clear view of the front door and the most of the rest of the bar.
"Hey, an Irish can never have too many drinks, Tomlinson." Niall pointed a finger at me. I raised my hands in defense and chuckled, going back to my pool game.
"You sure she's coming, mate?" Harry asked, taking his turn.
I rested my forearms on my pool stick, scanning the bar. I shrugged, getting ready for my turn. "This is where I met her so I'm taking a shot."
"What if she doesn't show?" Harry leans against the corner wall, watching me play. "Then you're just the sap that waited a whole night to give a girl back her underwear." Both Niall and Liam chuckled behind me, all three men earning a look from me.
"What am I supposed to do, Harry, keep a girls panties? What the hell would I do with them?" I gave him a light, playful push toward the table since it was his turn.
"I can think of a few things," Liam joked. Harry and Niall snickered, and Niall took the chance to score the tiny soccer ball while Liam was distracted with teasing me.
"That's gross, lad, and you know it."
"Yeah, but you know how many girls would pay to have the panties of a girl who slept with Louis Tomlinson?" Liam pointed out.
I positioned my stick on the table, glancing at the door once again. "Why would they ever want that?"
Harry shrugged. "Burn them?" I gave him a look and he held up his hands in defense.
Another good twenty minutes past and Eli hadn't shown up. I didn't know if there was even a chance she would show up, let alone to this exact bar. I could just ask the bar tender if she was a regular, or if she'd just been there that one time two nights ago. But then I'd look like a sap, and I wasn't. I just wanted to return some girls underpants.
One more drink and ten minutes later, and the bell above the front door chimes, the dark-wood door letting in a petite girl with long, blonde hair. I couldn't see her face till she sat down, but she looked just as hot as she did two nights ago, as if she was supposed to change since then.
Tonight, she wore similar dark jeans to the ones she had before, but the knees weren't ripped. On top of the black tank top was an unbuttoned black button-up. Her outfit is nothing from what she wore last time. Eli sat in the same spot she did last time, setting her bag down on the seat next to her. From back where I am, I can see her strike up a conversation with the bar tender, as if they know each other. Maybe she is a regular.
"That her?" Harry asks after observing me watch her for the last few minutes.
I nod, setting my pool stick down on the table. I wait for the tender to go to the other side of the bar before approaching her. Just as the night before, I take a seat next to her.
"Fancy seeing you here again. You remember me?" Eli doesn't look at me. Just swirls a finger around the rim of her glass. The clear view of her face tells me she's smirking and she knows I'm there, but doesn't acknowledge me.
"What're your friends names?" Eli asks, sipping her drink with her gaze straight ahead of her.
"What friends?" I asked. It was obvious what she was talking about, but she barely acknowledged my presence. How would she know who I came with?
Eli's gaze shifted over at me this time, a light smirk still on her face. She licked her lips and answered, "the ones 'discreetly' playing pool and foosball. They look similar to you in terms of fashion choices." I glanced up at the other side of the bar. Sure enough, all three boys had stopped what they were doing and openly stared at the both of us. "It's safe to assume they're yours," she added.
"They're just my buds. They wanted to come with me," I explained.
"To do what? Obviously you're here to do something?"
All of a sudden, I felt really embarrassed, but the deed had to be done. Her eyes stayed on my face as I pulled the silky panties from the pocket of my jacket. Eli's eyes were filled with amusement, but the same smirk stayed planted on her face. She took them from where I held them below the counter, as so no one could see.
"Thanks." She turned away a minute to put them in her purse. It didn't take long, she sort of just stuffed them in there. It was done, I could leave now. But I didn't want to.
"You wait here all night for me?"
I shrugged, looking away from her. Almost a good hour. "Just few minutes. You a regular here?"
Instead of answering my question, she trained her gaze to where it was before, sipping her drink. I noticed how the liquid slipped through her thin lips, which were very chapped even though they looked as smooth as they felt. "You a regular here?" When Eli saw I was confused, she clarified. "In America?"
I shrugged and shifted my weight to lean a bit more towards her. "I've been here a couple times." Maybe just a few, for concerts and interviews, and everything involving One Direction.
Out of the corner of my eye, she picked her drink up again and took a sip, not talking till the drink was on the counter again. "Way you came up to me so...smoothly...tells me it's been more than a few times."
"Well, my knowledge of New York is a bit fuzzy. How 'bout you give me a tour?" I asked boldly. Eli didn't seem like the girl who did a relationship, but if we had another night like the one before, I just may be able to convince her.
She circled the rim of her glass with a finger again, the smile on her face gone. Eli didn't answer me for a while. She downed the last bit of liquor in her glass, fished out a pack of cigarettes and a blue lighter from her purse, and lit one. She took a drag and tilted her head back, letting the smoke out with eyes closed. Her chest expanded as she inhaled the smell. And even now, instead of answering me, she slipped the lighter and pack back in her purse and jumped off her seat, sliding the strap on her shoulder. She gave me an amused look and took another drag, blowing the smoke in my face. "Bye Louis," were her last words before she walked out.#Eli#
After my annoying day at work and short encounter with Louis, I wanted nothing more than to cuddle with Darcy and watch 'Pretty in Pink'. Even though anything entertaining involving love as a main subject made me want to puke, I was a sucker for old movies.
I walked home with the recently received underwear in my crappy little purse, making me think about Louis and who he really was. It was cute he thought he could take me on a date. A date was the last thing on my mind.
It's not like I'm a soulless robot or anything. I feel and fall in love like any other person on the planet. Anyone who says they don't is lying. Emotions are the thing that run us on this earth. They determine who we keep in our lives and who we let go. Never has it been up us humans. It's always the emotions.
The ten minute walk on the warm summer night in the New York air was always appreciated. The lights on ever building illuminating the city, the rush of traffic on every corner and people bustling on the sidewalks. Even the occasional crazy, homeless guy on a street corner screaming at nothing in particular. Darcy always says those are the guys that would've changed the world if they had the chance. I always say that's how Darcy'll end up if she keeps thinking that way.
As I enter the lobby and put out my second cigarette from that walk, the elevator opens to reveal Darcy and her boyfriend, Averon. She's giggling up at him with the huge, goofy grin on her face she always gets when she's with him. I lock eyes with Sage from across the lobby, and he shakes his head too, giving me the shared 'Darcy's crazy' look.
"Eli!" Darcy greets me. Her and Averon are holding hands tightly, Darcy leaning into him as if he's a wall and she's drunk.
"Darce!" I copy her greeting. "Averon," I say with less enthusiasm. Averon nods at me and mutters 'cmon' to Darcy.
"I'll see you tomorrow, Eli!" She shouts as Averon drags her out the building. So much for cuddling with her tonight.
"She's love struck," Sage smirks, looking out the doors as I approach the desk.
"Either that or Averon drugged her again," I suggest.
"What kind of name is Averon anyway?" Sage asks, handing me my mail. We go through this routine similarly a lot every time we both see Darcy and Averon together.
"He just better not hurt Darcy. You can't trust someone with the name Averon," I tell him.
"Right!" He says in a hushed tone. We giggle at his name before I go up to my apartment. I like where Darce and I live. It's a good-sized studio apartment with a bit of a cramped bathroom, but that's because a girl can never have too big of a bathroom.
Overall, there's a space for everything and all the cheap crap we both own. The part I like is that there's two small, square spaces built on either side of the apartment that are perfect for bedroom use. It's the only parts of the studio that have windows, besides the small living room. Darce and I both hung curtains from Target to cover our spaces but they're rarely closed. We've grown up together so being naked around each other is a regular Tuesday.
Tonight, though, the apartment feels empty. Usually, I'd assume it's because of all the space we haven't filled up, used for moving around. But it doesn't feel like that tonight. Weird.
After changing from work clothes to a baggy, vintage t-shirt and preparing myself a glorious meal of a cup of ramen, I plop myself on the sunny yellow couch and wrap myself in my favorite quilt, and proceed to watch 'Pretty in Pink'.----------
