#Louis#

As soon as we got off the rooftop, the plan was in motion. The minute I saw Eli, every bad feeling washed away. There was a zoo in my stomach and a stampede across my heart. At first, I didn't know how to feel when she showed up looking genuinely sad. When I looked at her, it was like that first night we were on the roof. She admired the sunset while I admired her.
We finished at the car rental place and drove to her apartment. I could barely keep on my eyes on the road with Eli next to me.
"Watch the road," she scolded me.
I chuckled, glancing at her. "I am, see." She rolled her eyes and I chuckled again.
Traffic made the ride longer than it needed to be, but we had all the time in the world. As Eli ran up to get her camera from her apartment, a big smile crept onto my face. I think I actually felt giddy to be spending time with her. We haven't done something like this before, and I already know it'll make a great story.
It didn't take long and Eli had jumped back in the car with her camera and an extra quilt in case we were out late. "Ready?" She nodded, buckling her seatbelt. Neither of us knew where we were going but she had grown up in this city, knowing its ins and outs. Or as she called them, the escape hatches.
We drove for a while, not paying attention to where we were going. I sang along with songs on the radio while Eli giggled and rolled her eyes at me. She took photos of everything, most of them probably blurry as I sped up the further we got from the city.
The road we ended up on was mostly empty except for a few cars passing by every once in a while. Before we knew it, the sun was getting close to setting for good and we were still on an empty road.
Eli rolled down the window and stuck out her head and arm like a dog.
"Hey, you'll let in bugs!" I exclaimed, even though she looked beautiful with the wind whopping through her hair.
Eli rolled her eyes at me. "It isn't even your car."
"Yeah, but still. If I get back covered in bug bites, I'm blaming you."
"Yeah, ok," Eli agreed, grinning as she continued to hold her hand out the window.
At some point, we came across another road in which we had no clue where it led. It was a dirt road that swiveled around a huge grassy hill that stood next to the main highway. The dirt road turned out to be a dead end; it ended at a cliff that overlooked a new city.
We got out and walked to the edge. "Don't fall," I teased her.
Eli took photos of everything the lowering sunlight touched. The sunlight illuminated this new city below us that looked like it stretched for miles. Eli lowered her camera and started to itch her arm again. I noticed her doing it earlier too on the rooftop and in the car. I also haven't seen her smoke this whole time. I wonder how long it's been since she's had one. Can you get withdrawal from regular smoking?
In an attempt to distract her, I ran back to the car and started the engine. I found a station that worked out here and turned it up. I didn't recognize the song but it got Eli's attention.
I ran back to her and took the camera away from her. She stared at me in confusion as I set it on top of the car, making sure it was balanced.
"If you break my camera, you'll-"
"Dance with me," I cut her off, taking her hands.
"What? No, Louis, cmon," she argued.
"What, you've never slow-danced before?" I chuckled. My grin disappeared when I saw she wasn't laughing. "You've never slow-danced before. What about homecoming or prom or whatever other dances you guys have?"
Eli shook her head and shrugged. "No one ever asked me."
I stared at her in disbelief before smiling. "I'll teach you." I placed her hands where they were supposed to be and told her where to move her feet. When she didn't get it, I suggested a new idea.
"Here, stand on my feet," I told her, nudging her feet.
"Won't that hurt your feet?" A little ping hit my heart hearing this. Even though it was small, I liked hearing her care about me.
I shook my head, nudging her feet. "No, cmon, do it." I kept nudging
them till she gave up and put her feet on mine. This gave her a good two inches on me so she almost met eye level with me.
I smiled down at her when her face was closer to mine. "Hi."
Eli smiled sarcastically, and I continued on to show her how to dance. "Just watch my feet." She watched my feet for the next few minutes, watching how I moved. She held on the back of my jacket tightly even though I assured her I wouldn't drop her.
"You got it?" I asked quietly. I didn't feel a need to shout, but mainly, I was distracted by the proximity of our faces. Eli looked up and nodded.
    "I think I got it."
"Perfect." She started to get off but I protested. "Wait, what're you doing?"
"You taught me how to dance, now you have to sing for me."
"I taught you to do something so I have to repay you now?" I repeated, chuckling. I raised my eyebrows when she nodded seriously. I scoffed and shook my head. "No."
She nodded and gave me a look almost how a child would. "Yes."
I sighed and looked down at her. Her perfect face with big grey eyes and astounding smoke breath. I went and turned off the car as to not waste any more gas and to give her a performance.
I jogged back to the front of the car and stood in front of her. "Ready?"
She backed away from me and nodded, this time smiling very childlike.
I bit back a smile and cleared my throat. "I might never be your knight in shining armor," I began to sing. "I might never be the one you take home to mother," I held out a hand, motioning to her, "and I might never be the one who brings you flowers, but I can be the one, be the one tonight." I started walking around her slowly, singing the lyrics softly as she stared at me in awe.
"Cause I'm not good at making promises," I sang. Right before the chorus, a crazy idea came to mind, and I followed through with it. I ran and jumped on the hood of the car, making Eli snicker. "But if you like causing trouble up in hotel rooms, and if you like having secret little rendezvous, if you like to do all the things you know that we shouldn't do, then baby I'm perfect. Baby, I'm perfect for you," I held out the last note, motioning to Eli who stood on the ground fighting back a smile.
Eli clapped and fake cheered as I bowed, still on the hold. "Encore, encore. Louis, we love you!" She whisper-shouted, making me chuckle.
Out of nowhere, a raindrop hit my nose, then Eli's shoulder, and slowly, they were everywhere. "Louis, my camera!" Eli screamed. I jumped off the car, taking the camera and ushering Eli into the back of the car. She closed the door behind her and leaned back on the seat, both of us breathing hard.
"You good?" I asked, but almost immediately, she answered with, "How's my camera?" I twirled the soaked piece of equipment in my hands as Eli pouted.
Hating to see her so upset, I took out the SIM card and reached forward to place it in the glove box, putting the camera on the front seat while I was up there. When I settled back down, Eli looked at me with raised eyebrows.
"There, so at least your photos are safe."
Eli scoffed and scratched her head. "Yeah, but now I don't have a camera."
I shrugged. "I'll buy you a new one."
"Yeah, like that's so easy. Darce and I can barely pay our bills, considering she's a part-time waitress and I have no way of making money besides a gig every other month. But besides that, really good plan, Louis. Truly, very-"
I cut her off by placing a finger over her lips. "I said, I'll buy you a new one."
When she realized what I meant, she grabbed my finger and immediately started to disagree. "No, Louis, nope." She kept saying 'no' but I just kept nodding and saying 'yes'. This went on for a while before I couldn't hold it back anymore.
I held her by her wet hair and brought her face to mine, connecting our lips. We were both cold, but neither of us were complaining. Eli let go of my finger and I used that hand to bring her body closer to mine. It was the first time we've kissed without being drunk first, and I could feel the sparks flying. Hell, I could feel then even when we were drunk, but now I knew she felt them too so she couldn't deny it.
Her lips felt cold against mine as I ran my tongue across her bottom lip, earning a shiver that wasn't from the rain-soaked clothes. Our tongues wrestled as I massaged her bare skin under her t-shirt, which was starting to ride up. Her hands were on either side of my face, keeping me close. It was difficult taking off wet skinny jeans, especially in a cramped space, but we managed to do so without disconnecting our lips.
The second time we broke away, my shirt was flung into the back seat and I connected my lips to her neck. Her nails dug into my shoulders and I caressed her smooth, bare back with my hands.
This felt good, it felt right. It felt like it was supposed to. Just the two of us in our own little world with no one else. No ex's or one-night stands or best friends. No one to get in the barrier we built around ourselves. This felt right, and the only problem was Eli knew it too, she would just never admit it. And there was no way I could tell her without jeopardizing what we had.
When we were done, the rain still attacked the car from the outside and the ground and anything it touched. We wrapped ourselves in the quilt and tilted the seat back so we could lay down. Neither of us felt like paying extra for wasting gas to use the heat, so the quilt would have to do. It didn't bother me though, as I held her in my arms, the only heat we needed was our body heat.
The only sounds audible were our breathing and the heavy rain. It felt like a shield almost, the car. A shield protecting just the two of us. Eli curled up on my chest as I rubbed her back.
"I hate rain, it makes everything so gloomy," she muttered into my chest.
"Really? I think it makes everything cozier," I told her.
She shrugged. "I suppose."
