Nolen

Today was Saturday.

I was going to have my first official date.

Colton never took me out in public, so I'd never had a real first date.

At most we'd sit at home, cuddled together watching a movie on Netflix while I'd be inwardly complaining because I wanted to leave the house.

My mama and daddy didn't come out of their rooms (they no longer slept in the same room) so luckily there was no arguing to be heard all day.

But, when Cory came, they would have to be in each other's presence.

I didn't want to imagine how that would play out.

"Nolen, your boo thang is here," Kira said, peeking her head in my room.

I nodded, "I'll be there in a minute."

She nodded, closing my door back.

I checked myself in my mirror once more.

I wore an olive green shirt with white jeans and Jordan 9 olive green and white shoes.

I put on my gold watch and necklace then raced downstairs.

I saw Cory standing in the foyer looking just as good as I did.

I grinned, giving him a hug.

Mmm, he smells good.

He hugged me back and kissed my cheek.

"Hey," he said.

"Hey."

My dad came in first and my mama followed behind him.

My dad looked Cory up and down with a blank face.

He extended his hand, "I'm Robert, nice to meet you."

"I'm Cory, sir," Cory said, shaking his hand, "nice to meet you too."

"I'm Liz, nice to meet you," my mama smiled, shaking his hand as well.

"I'm his sister, Kira. Nice to meet you,"  my sister said, leaning her head out the kitchen with a mouthful of sandwich.

Cory grinned and waved to her.

So far so good.

"So, where are you taking my son," my dad asked.

"We're going to a concert and then we're getting something to eat."

"Oh ok, well, I hope you kids have fun," my mama said as she ushered us to the door.

"Yes ma'am," Cory and I said in unison.

"Love you," I said to my family.

"Love you too," they replied.

As we rode in a comfortable silence, Cory grabbed my hand, intertwining our fingers and resting our hands on my lap.

"Your family seems nice," he smirked.

"Yea, they're alright," I said, looking out the window.

We arrived at the concert and parked before we went into the stadium.

Cory had gotten us front row seats.

"You ready," he asked, grinning at me.

"Yes. You really don't know how long I've been waiting on this. Like I swear, this week couldn't have gone by fast enough," I replied.
