I stood while the sun beat rays onto my shoulders and my neck.

I stood on the edge of the porch while the wind blew through every strand of my hair into my face.

I stood and listened to all thr birds in all the trees whistle and sing their songs.

I stood and observed the ants running up and down the grass, hurrying as fast as they could back home.

I stood and thought of you.

I stood and looked over to where you used to lay and sunbathe.

I stood and looked at all of our pots of flowers that used to hide you from our vision, as well as the birds.

I stood, looking at all the scratch marks in the wood of the deck.

I stood there, looking.

Watching.

Waiting.

Breaking down into hard tears because I knew.

I stood,
knowing I'll never see you out here again.
