The Truth About Nightmares.

Have you ever experienced a constant darkness?
One that you cannot
Control?

Where you wake up each morning hoping for your bad dreams to go?
But the next thing you know,
It's later on in the day and
Your nightmares are still there.

That's because you can't escape
The fact that you're in hell.

You can't just leave.
No.
It's never that easy.

No amount of clicking your red ruby slippers
Together at the heel will
Bring you back to a simpler time.

Such simple tasks only exist
In dreams and movies
And fairytales because
There is no such thing
as a better place.

There's no hoping for the darkness to end,
Because it doesn't.

The darkness,
And sadness
And weaknesses
Don't just go away.

We simply learn to cope with it.
To numb the pain.
To carry on even when we feel
Like crying,
Or wishing that we were
Already dead.

Life doesn't wait for us,
Life isn't fair.
Life isn't beautiful, or lovely.
Life is cruel.
And dark.
And it only wants to see you burn.

Because the sad truth is that
You may think that the monsters
In your nightmares are pretty scary.
But the monsters
that you have to deal with
when you are awake
are even worse.

I promise you that.

No amount of sharp teeth,
Large spiders and snakes,
Creepy abandoned places,
Beds of needles or clown faces
could ever compare to that of the horrible world we live in.

When our mental health is put
Lower on the chart of importance
Than our grades.

And where disorders are treated so carelessly, that, until it's too late, everyone treats you like trash.
But afterwards, everyone treats you like you were somebody
Of importance to them.
When half of them probably don't even know your name.

We live in a world where the people who protect us
from real criminals
are paid less than that
of someone protecting a ball.

We live in a world of disease,
poverty, and cruelty.

We live in a world where the true
monsters here are ourselves.

Whispering things that
we don't want to hear
about ourselves
in the middle of the night
because we're too stressed out
too sleep.

Because our minds tell us to do
Things to ourselves that we shouldn't be doing.

We always judge each other and we act like that's okay.
When it isn't.

The true nightmares in this world,
Aren't that ones that leave you crying
Or shaking in the middle of the night..

The real nightmare is
The place you see
When you wake up.
