Alice's P.O.VThe only sounds were us shivering and exhaling at the attempt to keep ourselves warm. We were all huddled together, not wanting our skin to come in contact with the cold metal bars. If only we had went back to the castle. This would have never happened, I should have said something.
Earlier...
As I accelerated down the tube, my wrists were getting burned from the buoyant rubber underneath me. I inhaled the musky, damp, air and the smell of my poor wrists' flames. I saw Josie and Eve stroking their wrists.
I caressed mine as well and we looked around to see what encompassed them. It was difficult since there was dim lighting. I could make out the brick pillars every three feet away from one another. I attempted to lead by steering us west, but Josie yanked my arm and pulled me back to square one.
"What?" I rolled my arm back as it felt tense from her yanking.
"If we go wandering here, we could get seriously lost, it was rumored about this tunnel and how it went all the way across Wonderland," I glanced around realizing it did seem to continue very far.
" So then what do we do, Ms. IWannaPullPeoplesArms?"
"We find a way to get back up there, those guards looked mad and shocked we were there, one of them is bound to come down, we will attack him and climb back up the slide, as if we were kids in a park,"
"Attack?"
"Attack."
I slowly nodded, extremely frightened. I wasn't sure if I could fight, I barely took down a rabbit! Let alone a grown man, who is trained to protect. I'm also nervous if the man who was frightened to see me comes down. He looks so familiar yet I just can not remember who he is, but he surely knows me.
"Josie can you teach me how to fight, or Eve whoever does it better?" Josie shakes her head and laughs and Eve slightly chuckles, but stops herself and tries to stop Josie. Eve rubs her hands in and exhales in them as if she were trying to keep them warm.
"Your not going to be fighting, we can tell it would take months with you."
I gasped slightly hurt by Josie's words. I know she didn't mean to hurt me, but it did and I wanted to help fight.
"Why? Just teach me how to punch, I can help. I swear!"
I also know I was sounding like a whiny little girl, but I could care less I wanted to pitch in my part of butt-kicking.
"Eve will convert into a wolf and scare them off and if they aren't scared she will attack and I will help you just have to sit, look pretty, and casually look for an exit,"
"Wait, but-"
Right on cue the chute opened and air from above came upon us and all of us gasped it in as if we never had fresh air. It was such a relief from the musty smell of wet dog and dirty washrooms.
A torch was thrown down tied to a man. His arm was on fire and his screams of agony filled the underground passageways. It also filled our hearts with mercy, we instantly ran and untied him and stepped on him in attempts to put out the fire.
He stopped screaming a was silently sobbing. I knew that he was just on fire, but it had still caught me off guard that a grown man was crying, this whole time his face was on the floor trying to muffle his sounds, yet the more I stared at him I realized I recognized that ebony tousled hair. It was the hair that belonged to unknown man I had been thinking about the whole time we were down here.
