"So," the blood bag says after about ten minutes of walking. "What's your name?"

I ignore her question and keep walking. After a few moments of silence, she huffs. "You know," she starts. "If we are going to be travelling together, I think it would be good for us to be on a name-to-name basis, don't you think?"

I roll my eyes. "Jackal," I say with a growl. We haven't even walked a mile and I'm already annoyed by the blood bag.

She jogs up so that we are walking side by side. "Abigail," she says. "But you can call me Abby."

I turn to her to see a wide grin spreading across her bruised and bloody face. I can't help but shake my head at this. This girl as been through who knows what and yet, she still manages to have one of those stupid grins on her face. Humans can be so very confusing.

"How often do you have to feed?" She asks. I wait to see the fear that normally crosses the eyes of every human, but I don't see any. Just mere curiosity.

I try to ignore the fact this bothers me and say, "About every two weeks. Unless I get injured. Then I'll need blood right away." I end this with a flash of my fangs, trying to evoke some type of fear in her, but it doesn't faze her. I turn away from her with a grunt.

"Well," she says, clasping her hands behind her back. "I have to eat food on a more regular basis." She gives me a side glance and purses her lips.

I roll my eyes. "I don't have time to look for human food," I say, taking the hint. "You're on your own with that one."

She sighs. "Fine," she says. "I guess I'll just have to look while you're sleeping. All by myself. Which probably means I won't be getting any sleep myself. Which will just slow us down because I'll have to take more frequent breaks and I don't think you want that."

I growl at her. "Fine," I snap. "You've made your point."

I veer off into the nearest house and she quickly follows. "You blood bags are so infuriating with this whole constantly having to eat thing."

She laughs at this as she, too, begins to dig through the cabinets. "There's nothing here," she says with a huff. I look over to her and see her with her hands on her hips. "C'mon. We can check some more of these houses. There's gotta be food somewhere."

Ten houses and two convenient stores later, we are finally back on the road. With a bag full of disgusting human food, Abigail seemed satisfied with her pick. Of course, this took up most of the night. Dawn is merely ten minutes from breaking over the horizon.

"You have to sleep soon," she says. I stop when she suddenly turns and begins marching up the steps and into a farmhouse. I look forward, almost tempted to keep going. But for some reason, I turn and follow her.

The farmhouse is spacious on the inside as if no one had lived here Before. A dusty, blue couch sits up against the far wall with a beat up coffee table in front of it. A small kitchen is off to the side of me, all the cabinets open like someone had come in here and completely ransacked it.

"Hey!" I hear a voice from a room in the back. "The windows are blocked off in this room. Plus, there's a bed. You can take this one." Abigail then comes walking out and smiles at me. "I'm going to go see if there's anywhere I can clean up a bit. Goodnight, Jackal."

I nod my head to her and enter the room. The room is small, with a single bed pushed up against the corner. Boards cover the window, meaning that the sun won't be able to peek its devilish rays and burn me to crisp as I sleep. A wardrobe sits off to the side, the doors closed.
