"What is your sister like?" Abby asks the next evening.

I think for a moment, wondering how I could possibly describe my blood sister. "Human," I say and I receive a strange look from the blood bag.

"Human? I thought she was a vampire?"

I nod. "She is," I say. "But she holds onto her humanity. She basically cries every time she has to feed."

She bites her lip. "Where is she now?"

I close my eyes and reach out for that same tie. "Back in Eden," I say after awhile.

"Why is she back there?"

I grunt. You're the one who got yourself into this, Jackal. Best you not complain. "Saving the world," I say. I can't help but laugh at her confused look.

"You mean," she says after awhile, "that there's a cure? Or at least, almost a cure?"

I raise my eyebrow but say nothing. Abigail doesn't push on as we continue walking in silence.

"Do you miss her?"

"Miss who?"

"Your blood sister?" She asks, and I turn to her. Her heart beats fast in her chest and the smell of the blood in her veins causes my mouth to water and the Hunger leaps up with a vengeance. Sarren, you bastard. Will I ever be truly healed?

"I don't miss people, blood bag," I say and turn back around.

"Oh," is all she says and I can't help but turn back to her. A sad look crosses her face and I raise an eyebrow.

"Is something wrong?"

She shakes her head and plants a smile on her round face. I notice now that it's clean, the blood and dirt washed away. Her long, brunette hair is brushed and two braids line the side of her head. Her brown eyes glitter in the moonlight and I notice some sort of sadness there, but I can't figure out why. Not that I really care.

After a couple hours of walking, I glance over at the human. She attempts to stay up with me, but I can see the weariness in her eyes. "We should rest," I say and she nods. I watch as she walks over to a rock and sits down on it, her breathing coming out hard.

"It must be nice not having to breathe," she says. "And the fact that you never get tired."

I smirk. "I suppose being a vampire does have its perks," I say sarcastically. I receive an eye roll in response and my smirk widens. "I should tell you now that I am still slowly healing from an incident that happened before we met."

She nods. "Okay," she says. "So?"

I lengthen my fangs and bare them at her. "I'll have to feed soon."

She bites her lip, fear crossing her eyes and her heartbeat quickens, but she nods anyway. "Okay," she says after taking a few deep breaths. "When should we..."

My smirk widens even more. "Soon."

She takes another deep breath before nodding. "Okay."

After a few minutes, we begin walking again. I can smell the fear rolling off of her and I can't keep the smirk away.

"What happened?" She asks after awhile.

My smirk falls. I hadn't been expecting her to ask that. "Why?"

She shrugs. "I don't know. I'm just curious," she says, looking down at her feet.

"You ask a lot of questions," I say and she looks up. "It's very annoying."
