How could you leave him there?! Najee fights against me, pushing at my tentative hold on her. We need to go back!
I feel the tingle in my spine as Najee starts to take control. I'm going to change. Shit not in the car! The last time I shifted and lost control in the car we totaled the SUV.
"Stop the car." I hiss, my claws digging into the leather seat beside me.
"No Rylan, you need to tell us what what the hell is going on!" Silas yells, pushing the car even faster.
Tell him to turn around! Najee hisses, pushing my hold even more.
"Stop the car," I repeat, feeling my grasp on Najee start to slip.
"What the fuck happened back there?" Deniel yells, slamming his fist onto the dash board.
The claws on my other hand extend automatically and I use my position in the back seat to grasp Silas by his neck. I dig my claws into his skin, just deep enough to draw blood. "I said stop. The fucking. Car." I growl into his ear tightening my grip with each second the car doesn't stop.
He slams on the brakes, his grip on the wheel tightening as he tries to keep the SUV on the road. My head slams into the front headrest, but I don't care. I need to get out of here. Before we have even completely stopped I fling open the door and jump out. I run into the trees not stopping even as I hear Silas and Deniel's frantic questions running through my mind.
I block their thoughts as I shift midstride, not bothering to strip first. I ignore the burst of pain radiating throughout my body as each bone swiftly breaks and reshapes itself into my wolf form. I push through the pain and hurl myself forward; my clothes fall in tatters to the ground behind me as I race underneath the cover of the trees. I don't let Najee take control in my wolf state though. I have just enough restraint to maintain control. I force her to the back of my mind, running into woods at a full sprint.
We have to go back! She hisses trying to establish a stronger presence.
I lock her away behind the strongest mental block I can muster, pushing my legs faster as I escape further into the forest. I run in the general direction of home, making sure to give the Council mansion a wide birth.
Shit I thought I would have more time to prepare for this day. I've been trying to figure out what I would do if I found my mate since I took over the pack 14 years ago. My legs start to slow as the memory of sugar cane and pomegranate takes over.
I shake the memory out of my head and force my legs faster, focusing only on putting one foot in front of the other; travelling one foot farther away from that house. From that man.
I've been on the move for more than half a day, running at a full sprint the entire time. The sun set a while ago. The moon rises high to the top of its arc as I continue to escape, pushing myself farther and farther from that ma- I mean house. Luna mocks me from her throne in the sky. She knew this was going to happen. She did this to me. I turn my gaze to the dirt flying beneath my paws and keep pushing myself further.
I need to keep going. I can still smell the pomegranate in my nostrils.
I go for hours longer, long enough to watch Luna start to make her graceful descent from the sky.
She is almost gone when my legs give out from underneath me.
I look around, trying to determine where I am. Nothing but trees. I sniff the air, trying to determine if anything is near me. There isn't any rotten pomegranate. No sickly sweet sugar cane. Nothing. The air smells of pine, dirt, and running water.
