"Thank you for taking the time to talk to me Alpha." The mother smiles graciously and bows her head slightly.
"Of course," I grin back at her before turning my attention to the semi-unconscious child swaying precariously by her side. "I should let you go before this little one falls asleep on his feet."
We laugh as he slumps slightly before straightening up and looking around confusedly.
She leans down to scoop him into her arms. He snuggles his head into her neck as she nods a goodbye at me. I hear the slight snores of the child as his mother turns and walks away, heading down the street to the first row of houses.
I look around the now empty square, the murmurs that filled the space just 10 minutes ago now nothing more than memories. I sit down on the edge of the fountain and stare at the pebbled concrete under my feet. 3 hours after the meeting first started and the last of the people just left.
It wasn't even that I had to convince them that this was the best course of action because they trust me implicitly. They already know I had their best interests at heart. All they wanted to know was the plan of action and how they could help.
3 hours of explaining every single detail of the plan. Well...not every detail. There is something I can't let anyone know about yet. But I'll take care of that tonight.
My eyes sweep across the closed shops and dark houses in front of me before I look back to the Village which looms behind me. The building is almost entirely dark as well. Everyone is turning in early tonight, preparing to wake up early tomorrow and begin preparations. I squint to check the hands on my watch ticking by. It's only 10 o'clock. It's not late enough yet.
Everyone is going to sleep now. Najee notices. We can leave at midnight.
I nod my head in agreement as my eyes grow heavier. I start to walk back to the Village, already knowing the list of things I need to do to prepare for tonight.
I roll out my shoulders as I push open the back door and make my way to my room on the 4th floor. I shut the door to my room quietly and look at the supplies I have already laid out on my bed: the black jeans and hoodie, my sneakers, the small vial I stole from Doc when he wasn't looking, the syringe I took from the Barns. Everything else I'll need is already in the hideout.
I lie down on my bed and roll my head over to look at the clock. 10:11pm. I absentmindedly reach for the remote and switch on the TV, flipping through the channels to settle on some idiotic cartoon. I feel my eyelids growing heavier the longer I lay here so I reach over and set an alarm on my phone to go off 5 minutes 'til 12.
That should be plenty of time to get some rest before I exert myself. I start to go over the plans once more, looking for any missed flaws as I watch the characters bounce around the screen.
I wake with a start, pulled from my slumber by the droning of bells. I quickly reach for my phone and silence the wretched noise. I drape my arms over my face and lay in the dark, only the lighting from the TV providing any type of illumination in the room.
Once my mind has cleared enough I get up and head to my bathroom, splashing water on my face a couple times to wake me up completely.
I finish changing into my all-black ensemble and pull on my black Nikes. I carefully fill the syringe with the liquid from the vial, cap it, and slip it into my pocket
Are you ready for this? The anxiety Najee feels is almost contagious.
I pull my hair into a low ponytail and slip a black beanie on top.
Let's do this.

I slip into her room without a noise. I push myself as flat against the wall as I can, gently closing the door behind me. I wait for a minute in silence, acclimating to the environment before I make a move. My eyes dart around the room as I study the bare walls and the articles of clothing strewn about the floor and desk.
