"Okay class, how are your science labs coming along?" Mrs. Curie asked through a big smile. She was a boisterous person that had an evident passion for science. It was by far my favourite class of the day.
"Good." A chorus of students replied not lifting their gaze from the reacting substances on the counters.
I was partnered with my good friend Zoey who was more interested with the chemistry in relationships, than the sector of science.
"Did you know that Jennifer Cralik dumped Mitch Owens, because he left their date early to go to a TED talk on Innovative technology." I found myself laugh as I took down notes on the bubbling substance in front of me.
"He's kind of cute though." She said dreamingly staring across the classroom.
"Come on Zoey focus please." I joked. I looked up at him and shook my head. His lab partner, Pele Emberson was twirling a strand of her perfect hair with one hand and with her other hand texting on her phone. On the contrary, Mitch was writing up a storm. I let out another small laugh.
Although, I was trying my best to focus on the work in front of us I couldn't help but have my mind drift to the events of this morning. Additionally, the hell I would be emersed into at Starbucks in approximately 10 minutes.
I guess I didn't hide my emotions as well as I thought, because Zoey stopped pouring liquid into the vial as well as talking. She looked at me with a concerned expression. Trying to figure out, what exactly was wrong with me."Are you alright?" She asked not moving her eyes away from mine.
"Ya, I am fine." I responded with a smile, then I turned to do the next part of the experiment. "Just had a hectic morning." I said noticing she was still staring at the side of my head. Her gaze always made me feel like she could hear my thoughts and to provide convincing evidence to this theory she opened her mouth and spoke again.
"Girl, I am not going to stop staring at you until you tell me exactly what happened." I nodded and sighed knowing that what she said was true.
"Lani and Travis broke up," I whispered turning to face her as I said it. "So my twin decided to crash at Pele Emberson's house and not come home at all." Zoey's eyes popped out of her head and her eyebrows rose significantly.
" Pele Emberson like 'I am the best person on earth' Pele. Wow. You'll have to tell me more at lunch." She shifted her gaze over to Pele and Mitch where Mrs. Curie was answering a question of Mitch's. She wore that 'I am impressed ' look as she looked down at his paper. Pele wore a huge fake smile and giggled as Mrs. Curie complimented their notes.
" I can't, I am going to Starbucks with Lani and Pele." I sighed as I took down more notes.
"What? But there is drama club today. It's the last day to pay for spirit wear!" She reasoned clearly confused on my change of plans.
"I know I am not getting spirit wear... I am using that money to pay for our lunch. Since I forgot to pack one."
"Oh Adrienne I'm sorry... I would give you money, but I spent all of mine buying caf food yesterday... I can ask Mr. Mercutio to order you one and you can pay him back?" She offered with a sympathetic grin.
"It's fine. You know Mr. Mercutio, he wouldn't do that." I said finishing up our lab notes.
The bell rang and made my heart skip a beat.
"Have a great day!" Mrs. Curie boomed her big brown afro bobbing with her volume.A great day. I really doubt that from the way it's been going so far. However, the day is what you make it, so I better start thinking positively. It's just lunch I thought. I have eaten lunch every day for sixteen years. This'll be no different.
