[Recollection 05]
I had already packed my bags, rented a car for a day and told Riley that I was going to be gone for the night because I will be paying a little surprise visit back home. I just have to get through today and I'll be having my well-deserved break with the ones I love. I didn't want to excite myself too much since time would definitely seem slower than it is if I spend the whole day looking forward to the end of it, so I want to focus on the classes that I have today, keeping myself busy while the sun slowly sets.
I quickly stuff my notebook into my bag, trying to speed things up as I see that I've got seven minutes left until the class starts. The professors aren't strict about punctuality at all, but Music History has been the class that I've been doing the worst in and I have no plans of dropping out or repeating my freshman year.
"I'm off," I tell Austin, who's had his hand in his blonde, messy hair as he leans over the table, tapping his pencil to each note as he reads the music sheet.
He gives me a half-hearted nod. "See you."
I accelerate to a brisk walk after jogging down the stairs, skipping a couple of steps so that I could get to my class quicker. Exiting my dorm building I grab my bag as I run for my life towards the campus, which now feels like it's on the other side of the fucking world. It isn't uncommon to see a student rushing to their class in the campus, it was a bewildering sight to me at first, but everyone gets used to it, especially the students that take demanding courses like Biology, Chemistry, and medical-related professions. Music students are generally pretty chill, although you can find us stressing out in the nearest practice rooms in the Music Department Building when midterms and finals are near.
With my heart beating like crazy, my shirt beginning to get soaked in sweat and my lungs heaving for air, I come to a stop when I reach the entrance of my classroom, reaching my hand out to turn the knob when I notice the piece of paper taped on the door. I ignored it at first glance, thinking it was an announcement for some kind of try-outs since those are around the campus.
"Music History 111 class moved to 8:30AM."
I take a glance at my watch, reading 8:02AM.
I silently curse to myself, regretting the decision to run all this way for a class that was moved half an hour later. I head towards the ledge, pushing myself up to sit on it, choosing to just wait patiently for the doors to open since it's going to be pointless to go anywhere else. Besides, I need to air out my shirt.
I get my notebook out from my bag, flipping through the pages of scribbled down notes as I find the latest ones, giving them a quick scan to help pass the time.
I look up as I feel a tap on my knee.
"Is there any chance you might be Brendon Raines? The violinist I saw in one of the shows in campus?" He asks.
I give him a friendly smile as I hope he doesn't notice me blushing. It's such a weird thing being recognized in public as the guy who plays violin from that one campus show. I'm not complaining, but I'm certainly not bragging.
"Yeah and it's Braydon Raines," I answer.
He was undoubtedly a beauty, a defined jaw, a cute nose and sparkling eyes, he kind of reminds me of Dylan as I come to examine his features closer. He was carrying a backpack as he leaned on the ledge I was sitting on, his triceps showing from the sleeve of his shirt.
"I'm Jack Thames, on my second year around here." He introduces, offering a hand which I take, exchanging a firm handshake.
"So, are you studying for something? I'd recommend you use the library, it's much quieter there and it has air conditioning." He chuckles.
