Chapter Seven

Joel's POV

"She told me I was a monster."

"Well..."

"Are you serious?"

"You can be a queen bee sometimes."

"Am I really that bad?"

He stays quiet and I groan. "Why didn't you tell me?"

"I thought you were being conscientious of what you were doing."

"But you could've-"

"Could've what? Told you something? So I can get trashed on too? No fucking thanks."

I stay quiet and mumble, "I'm sorry I'm such a bad friend. I'm trying to get better."

Yoandri sighs. "Dude. It's fine. You're a good friend you can just go overboard sometimes."

When we hang up after bitching about homework and teachers, my mind drifts to Blu and her eyes.

Those beautiful green eyes.

They had swirls of light green, flecks of black. They were ringed by the inky color.

My stomach flutters and I sigh, a warm feeling stretching all the way from my head to my toes at the thought of her lips.

Ugh.

I would love to have hers upon mine.

I hear footsteps on the stairs and look alert, grabbing my laptop and pretending I'm on the phone. "Yup. Okay, so that was-"

"Hey. We have guests over," Dad barges in as he texts something rapidly on his phone.

I suck in a breathe and nod. "Okay. Give me a few minutes." He looks at me as I put away my laptop and start to get changed.

"Do you still see that girl?"

I huff, and put on my dress shoes.

I look at him and see the disapproving look in his eye.

"No," I force a smile.

"No, I don't."

A monster doesn't deserve a queen anyway.

***

"Hey, Blu."

She lets hair fall upon her face and I frown at the thought of her beautiful hair covering her gorgeous face.

"Hi," she whispers softly.

I bite my lip, everyone whispering as they see us talking, making me slightly anxious. I sigh and look around, people even taking pictures.

"Hey, about what you said last night-"

"W-what about it?"

I open my mouth to speak but then she looks at me and I slump onto one of the lockers, her eyes fucking me completely up. I get lost in those captivating green eyes that seemed more intense today. Her hair curls and swirls beautifully on her shoulders and tendrils fall upon her cheek.

Her neck is exposed today, something I could never appear to get used to. Her smooth caramel skin never failed to take my breath away.

The bell rings and Blu scrambles to shut her locker door, get her things together, and rush to class. I walk behind her and a few people smirk as they see her but then walk faster when they see me.

We eventually get to class and the literature teacher lets us settle down before he starts speaking.

"Next prompt is: Love."

Blu freezes in her seat and I look at her, wishing for her to realize that I find her strikingly gorgeous.

"Find out what your partner loves and what your partner doesn't. This one might take a while so I'll give you two months. About five or four months left until partner projects are over."

I breathe out and Blu just stares at her paper, doodling something on the inside of her palm.

"When do you want to meet?"

"Whenever."

"How's today? We can go to my house right after school."

"No."

"Why not?"

"Because my foster mom needs me to watch the house for the night."

I look at her, but this time I try to imagine what she feels. She looks tired, her face distant, her skin slightly paler but still smooth and silky. Her lips are chapped, and her eyes nervously watch everything, alert and alive.

The way her shoulders slumped, her head dipped, and hair fell past her face made my heart drop.

"Are you okay?"

Blu stays quiet before inhaling deeply and shaking her head. "Like you care," she mumbles. I frown and turn my body towards hers, "Please tell me?"

She looks at me before taking a deep breath and letting the truth flow from her mouth. "No. I'm hurt deeply. Something that could've been prevented if I had just paid attention to what people were saying."

"And what was it that they were saying?"

Matthews stares up at me and my breath catches.

"That you're no good for a girl with a big heart that thinks your absolutely beautiful," she states with a look in her eye that told me to shut up and listen.

"You think I'm beautiful?"

"Maybe on the outside but in the inside, in your heart?"

I bite my lip and she shakes her head at me.

"You're the ugliest person I've met."
