Chapter Seventeen
Joel's POV
The weekend goes by quicker than ever and I find myself stuck in the halls of high school yet again. I sigh and collect my books, looking around to see if I can find the one person who could brighten my day.
I spot her hair before I see her face and see that she is dressed in a white tee tucked into some ripped jeans, a gray zip up sweater, and Vans. She pushes her hands further into the pockets of the sweater and walks into her first class.
I smile at her presence, feeling slightly better about being in school. "Hey bro, what's up?" Yoandri greets as he bites into some licorice. He offers me one and I thank him as I take a piece.
"Have you seen Blu today?" he asks as he looks around the crowded halls.
I nod and point to her first period class, "Why?"
He smirks, "I'm just tryna love her man. She's such a good person."
I bite my lip and look at him, trying hard to keep the comment that burned in my mind from leaving my mouth.
"Oh. You know I like her right?" I offer.
Yoandri stops chewing and looks at me with a confused expression. "You sure have a weird way of showing it," he snorts. "You've bullied her for as long as I can remember and you're just now deciding to like her?"
I shake my head, "Don't make it sound as if my feelings for her aren't genuine."
He raises his hands in mock surrender, "I'm just saying. What're the chances you end up breaking her heart? At least I can keep my heart to one person."
I look at giving him a dangerous glare. "I like her, Yoandri. And if I can get her to be mine, I will," I say defiantly.
Yoandri clenches his jaw and tugs on his beanie, "Very well. Let's let her choose. May the best man win."

By the time I'm able to talk to Blu, she is in a nonchalant mood. I meet her at her locker and just as she bangs her head on the small metal door I greet, "What's up?"
She offers me a smile and looks at me with bright green eyes, "I'm good. How about you?" I nod and smile back, "Same. But I did want to ask what you would be doing today. I'm planning a surprise for you."
Blu glances at me and I see her biting back her smile. "Another one? Didn't you give me one last week?" I chuckle and tuck a piece of hair behind her ear, letting my fingers linger on her cheek. "This one is more special," I say in a soft tone.
She leans into my touch unknowingly and I try to tone down the butterflies in my stomach.
"I'm not doing anything," she finally replies. "Good. Meet me at the coffee shop after school," I grin.

"Okay you have to close your eyes," I smile as Blu looks at me with a skeptical glint in her eyes. She shrugs and closes them, giving me the chance to proceed with my surprise.
I smile as I pull out the once torn ribbon and tie it around her hair. I tie it in a bow and take a quick picture of it.
"Okay, open," I exhale as I show her the image.
She looks at me with amused confusion before her eyes land on the picture. Her fingers come to her mouth that has opened in shock and I see her expression transform into one of genuine happiness.
"You didn't! Oh my gosh!" she grins.
Blu jumps into my arms, resting her head on my chest and stays for a second or two. Just as she's about to pull away, I finally get over my shock and press her closer to me, one hand on her waist and one at the nape of her neck.
"Anytime, Matthews," I whisper in her ear, pressing a tender kiss on her cheek. "Anytime."
