Ch. 51 Universal Reset Part 6
I slowly opened my eyes. I sighed and listened as I woke myself up. It was eerily similar, but in a good way. The sounds of birds, the traffic. I sat up and looked around. I was in my own room at my house.
"Wow." I whispered. I looked around the room a little. Could I really be home finally? But as I walked past a mirror, I saw my reflection.
It wasn't anything terribly shocking. In fact I looked pretty normal, but my hair was a different color, a bright blonde. A few other differences in my face. But I did still have my moms eyes, and other traits that I got from her.
"Weird..."
From down the hall, I heard my mom call.
"Todd! You better hurry if you want to catch your father before he leaves!"
My mind just about shattered.
My dad had left when I was young. Suddenly. I didn't understand why, and to be honest I never asked mom. It just rocked my world too hard. I went numb for a few months, and that's when I began building my famous sense of humor. I guess I figured if I could laugh enough, I would get over it. And maybe it helped, but I never forgot what happened.
"Dad?"
"Yeah, he's going on that business vacation this week."
I came to see where my mom was. I walked in, and there was someone. He wasn't the father I knew, which initially gave a twinge of disappointment. But I came up to him anyway. I had never experienced having a father at this age.
"Uh, bye, Dad."
"Goodbye. I'll be back in a few days. See you then."
I think he expected me to say something, but stomach was too busy turning somersaults. I could only keep myself from breaking down.
He smiled and walked out the door to the car.
I sighed and walked back to "my" room. I sat down on my bed and looked out the window. I hadn't looked at this view in a long time. I looked at my hand. I tried changing my hand into a claw. Nothing happened.
I was confused. I went to my mom.
"Hey, were could I find Doc?"
"Who?"
I stopped cold.
"My science teacher?"
"Oh. Since when do you call him that?"
"I always have. Wait, him?"
"Really? As for where he is, heck if I know."
"What about, like, my Pokemon team?"
"What? Todd, are you okay?"
"Yeah, uh, I just need to get some fresh air."
I walked out. I sat down on a stump I had always had in my yard and put the pieces together.
"Okay. I am in a different universe. That's confirmed. But now I'm not a pokemon, I have a father who is actually here, and nobody seems to know who Doc is. This is...weird."
I decided I had to try Doc. I grabbed my bike and went to Doc's house. I had found that there were several running things throughout the universes, so if I was in a world a lot like my own, Doc should live where she always does.
I knocked on the door. After a while I could hear some sounds from inside and the door opened. I smiled as she opened the door. She looked at me unimpressed for a few seconds, then grunted, "I don't want to buy anything." Then she slammed the door on me.
I knocked again. Eventually the door opened again. "Listen kid, I-"
"This is about Pokemon." I interrupted.
She stopped, then looked at me. She sighed. "Come in."
"Really? Just like that?"
"Don't make me rethink my decision, kid."
We sat down on her couch. "What do you want?" She asked quickly.
"Listen, this is gonna sound crazy, but I know you found another world. I am actually from another world. A different universe, actually. Well, sort of. My body is from this universe, but my mind is from my own universe."
She looked at me.
"It's been a long week."
"Hmm. Weird." She stood up. She went into her kitchen. "Coffee?"
"Seriously?"
"I figured all you teenagers drank coffee way too early."
"No thanks."
She poured herself a cup and walked back in. She sat down again.
"What do you want me for, kid?"
"Well, I'm in this new universe, but I don't understand it. Where I come from, Pokemon exist, but, it's also, well, kind of weird."
"What does that mean?"
"Well, where I come from...I'm a Pokemon. Well, sort of. I'm like part human, part Pokemon. But in this world I'm not, and in this world I have a father who is here, but he isn't my own father from my world, because he, uh, well he left. And uh, in my world you're a science teacher. My science teacher."
She took another sip. "Sounds horrible."
"Should I take offense at that statement?"
"Shut up and tell me what else about this you need to know."
"Really? Do you trust me?"
"No. Talk."
"Listen, this is extremely similar to my world. I need to figure out what event changed in this world that made it so different yet similar to mine."
"Hmm."
"Unfortunately, I never asked my version of you how she found Pokemon. I was hoping you could explain."
She shook her coffee around a little in her cup.
"I understand. You don't believe it. It's ridiculous."
I stood up and walked towards her door.
"Thanks anyway."
"I was in college."
"What?" I turned around and looked at her.
"When I discovered Pokemon. I was in college.
