Ch. 72 Monsters Part 4

Four point five seconds later I was outside the building (via a back window). I couldn't even bring myself to be sneaky, I just punched some monsters in the face and hoped it drew their attention.

I'm proud to report that it did. I jumped up onto the wall, digging in with my claws and kicking one off. I swung a little, then released from the wall, traveling through the air for a short distance before landing on another monster. I propelled myself off of anything and everything, trying to stay moving as to defeat as many as possible as quickly as possible. I was letting out all of my frustration, and turning it into real ass kicking.

I kept doing this for what seemed like ages, moving back and forth across the sides of the building, trying to keep any of them from getting in. After a while I stopped for a few seconds. I looked and saw that they were still coming. "Am I even making a difference?" I muttered to myself.

Before I could enter battle again, I was hit out of nowhere by something very wet, knocking me down to the ground. I grunted, and lifted my head to see the attacker. Or rather, attackers.

My friends, of course. I couldn't just have it easy for once.

I gotta say, they were different from most of the monsters. For whatever reason, parts of their Pokemon forms were present as well, making for weird conglomerations of monsters and, well, monsters.

I looked down at the puddle at my feet. Obviously a bubble attack, so Harper hadn't lost her powers. The others probably hadn't either. I looked back at them again. I took a fighting stance and motioned for them to come closer.

They attacked with surprising intensity. Taylor went first, lunging forward in a kick. I was forced to dodge back, and proceeded to do so multiple times as she continued the attack. Before I could dodge yet another kick, I felt the fur on my neck rise, and I looked over my shoulder briefly to see Adrian rise up from a shadow and knock me forward. I was thrown into the incoming kick from Taylor, and I ended up flat on my back.

I rolled over to avoid another bubble attack from Harper, then jumped to my feet. I turned and blocked a punch from Adrian, and smacked him across the face before slamming a fist into his gut. Even though he was trying to kill me, I still felt sick doing it.

Nelly came next, and I hesitated, allowing less time to think. I only managed to duck just in time, and when I straightened up, Joey's metal arm was on a high speed path towards my face.

I fell to the ground as splitting pain entered my head. My brain throbbed, and my vision was a little blurry. I stumbled to the side, managing to avoid another attack form Harper, and it struck Taylor, who had been approaching behind. As my vision began to clear, I noticed Nelly coming in again. She suddenly flew upward when she was almost next to me. As she soared into the air, lightning built up, and she released a powerful shock. I dug my claws into the ground and hoped I had enough of my ground powers still in me. The shock coursed through me, moving quickly and definitely painfully through my body into the ground.

I grunted and released my grip as she swooped down again. This time it was apparent she wasn't stopping. I fell back and kicked into her stomach as she passed over, causing her to dip sharply and crash into the ground just behind me. I stood up as Joey rushed me, ready to begin a heavy attack. I looked back for a half a second, seeing Nelly lying on the ground, her body sparking. I face front again and grabbed him by his metal arm. I yanked him over towards Nelly, and just before his arm reached her, I let go. Not a fraction of a second later, a shock coursed through his body, and he collapsed on top of her.

I stood panting, examining my friends. "I'm sorry about this, guys." I turned to the sound of a low growl. Harper still stood there, looking pretty ready to kill me.

I shuffled a little and took a fighting stance. "Let's do this thing."

-Meanwhile-

Lucario and Kaine were working furiously. The numbers were being crunched, and the final release of the gas was almost ready. They prepared the systems, and the tanks of antidote began to rumble slightly.

Lycanroc sat quietly on the floor. He wasn't able to help here, but he was ready to defend if necessary. He looked around, but could see nothing out of the ordinary. He took a small breath through his nose, and caught a strange scent. It was like those of the monsters but different. And it came from somewhere else.

He looked over to one of the tanks of antidote, where out of the shadow, a faint figure seemed to materialize.

"THERE!" He yelled. Lucario and Kaine stopped their work immediately to see a monster teenager with small bits of purple across he body ready to strike a tank.

Suddenly, one of the walls was obliterated, and something flew through, hitting the monster and knocking it to the ground. Todd stepped through the hole in the wall, rubbing the back of his head. "Uh, hi."

"Thank you for that. We almost lost the entire mission here." Lucario pointed to the monster.

"Oh." Todd scratched his head. "Yeah. I meant  to do that. Definitely."

-Todd POV-

"How did it get in here?" Kaine asked, still staring at the two unconscious beasts.

"It seems to have still retained some amount of its original powers. It must have entered by through the shadow."

"Less distracted science, more save-the-freakin-world science." I told them. As I did, the rest of the large horde of mindless creatures noticed the hole in the wall. I rolled my eyes and called Lycanroc over just as they began cramming through the opening.

I tried to hit as many as possible. We formed a sort of line, holding them in front of that point. We kept several from getting close. Soon, however, the sheer number caused them to begin pushing us back. Once we had gone a certain distance, I knew that Lucario and Kaine could be caught in the fighting if we went any further.

I was flustered and frustrated. I growled, and my blood boiled. A strange feeling spread through me, and I felt my body seperate from the ground. A glow seemed to fill the room, and all the monsters coming through froze in place.

"Holy mother of s***." Kaine gasped.

I held out a hand, and spread my fingers. The large group was flung out of the hole with incredible force.

I drifted down to the ground, and gasped, trying to catch my breath.

"That was...incredible. How did you do that?" Lucario asked me.

"Just...push the d*** button!" I answered him.

The two looked at each other, thenbegan final adjustments. After a moment, they nodded, and pushed some lever. The chambers of antidote began to rumble, but I didn't see anymore. I had exhausted myself. I passed out peacefully.
