It was the cold of night, which I didn't have a problem with. I loved the cold, I felt like me and the winter had a connection. We are one. I get out of my soft, warm bed and walk over to the window. I unlock the two clamps that lock the window and slowly and quietly slide it up. I stick my head out, feeling the cold, crisp, air blow across my face. The wind was blowing tons of snow around. It looked like a complete white out. The only thing I can see is the bright glow of the moon.

I also see the northern lights. I was always told that they were in Alaska but some how they made there way down here. Too West Virginia. They are always so beautiful. I love them. I look forward and begin to scan what I can see of the field. I hear a faint melody in the blowing wind. I look harder and see a bluish glow under the snow fog. "Molly" I say to myself. Molly is like a mother, no, is a mother to me. She took me in after all the bad stuff went down.

After all the parents vanished and the blackouts came in. I hate blackouts. There like humans except with a nasty twist. There stronger, faster, and more capable of doing things like killing. If you get bit by one, your gonna turn in to one. A bad way to go. There is no cure. No hope. I continue listening to Molly's beautiful singing. Mollys hair glows blue whenever she sings. Its because she says she's some type of Angel or something.

The wind has calmed down enough to were i can completely see her. The moon completely lit up the field. As I was sitting in the window seal, I look out at Molly. She went outside to check a noise she heard. As I was looking at her, she faced towards me. She smiled and waved at me. I do the same back. As I was waving I notice a pair of large glowing eyes above molly. The wind started up again and my vision of molly was barley there. I realize that it was a black out. I scream out but to no success. The wind muffled out my voice.

I quickly remember the house we were staying in had a rifle in the closet of the bedroom I was sleeping in. I quickly run over to it and open it. It was full of cob webs and dust. I see the rifle and grab it. I check to see if it was loaded. Surely enough it was. I rush back to the window. I sit the bottom of the gun on the seal of the window to use as a tri pod. I look through the scope which did not help much due to the wind blowing snow around.

I plant the cross hairs directly between the two glowing eyes. I took a deep breath and slowly squeeze the trigger. "POW!" The rifle goes off. The scope smashes me in the eye, knocking me to the floor. I get back up almost instantly. I look to see if I hit my mark. Thank god, I see a giant dark creature on the ground twitching.

I quickly run down stairs and go out through the back door and run towards molly who is lying on the ground. I see molly has a huge gash going along side her leg. She's also got a bruise on her head. That explains why she's unconscious. I run in the house and come back with a med kit. I pour alcohol on her wound and dry it. I then stitch and wrap her leg up with bandages. As I was finished, I her weeping. I turn and look at the dead black out. The sound was coming from it.

I slowly approach the dead black out and stand next to it. I examine it and flip it over. I was shocked when it revealed a little girl. She was crying. She was very little. She has blonde hair that goes just past her shoulder and big blue eyes. She looked to be Around the age of 4 or 5. She looks up at me with her teary eyes and says "weres my momma?" What? How does she have a mom? I thought they were all gone. The parents vanished. I quickly wipe that out of my head when I hear screams of black outs near by. I help the little girl up and carry her on my back. As I walk over to molly, I ask the little girl " how did you get here?"

She whimpers and says " It killed my momma and brother. Then it took me." That's odd. Why would black outs let her live? I hear the blackouts scream even closer this time. The one I shot must have been a straggler from the herd. The herd is a massive group of black outs that roam together, being lead by a massive blackout. I rack up all the strength I have and carry molly by her arm. I begin running to the house. About half way I turn to see the herd in the field, emerging from the woods that surrounded the field. They were scanning the area. The biggest one locks his eyes right on me. I had reached the door by that time. He begins to charge at me.
