-[UNEDITED]-

Days passed. Well it seemed like days, but truly only a few hours passed. The worried fifth-ranker paced nervously around his room, when a grumpy voice startled her.

"Stop that infernal noise at once. My head is beginning to pound with headache. And what sort of betrothed dumps water on her future husband?"

"The suddenly engaged kind. Dur."

He rubbed his head and sighed in annoyance. "Do you ever think you could not be a stupid witch for once? The only reason I asked you to become my wife was because of that stupid Alovia!" He half-yelled.

The room was filled with a deathly silence following that sentence. "You- this really was a fake wasn't it! Screw my feelings and yours too for that matter! I've had enough! Why'd you bring me on this stupid 'tour' if you didn't even want to marry me! I just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time." She broke down sobbing and ran out of the room.

"Valeria-"

He sighed again and wondered why he'd picked her of all people. She was infuriating, loud, obnoxious, strange, slow, clumsy, idiotic, and annoying...it didn't make sense. She didn't make sense. And why was she so sensitive suddenly?

His hurtful words echoed in her ears as she ran blindly. Opening a random door, she ran inside and continued sobbing.

She mentally chided herself for having such feelings. Why had those words affected her? The only reason I asked you to become my wife was because of that stupid Alovia. Did that mean he had wanted to marry another woman?

No. She couldn't think of this anymore. She would survive the marriage. It would completely ruin Corvan if they were to separate. In a desperate need for air, she managed to find her way to the gardens, where a strange golden thread was quivering with fear.

What was in the box? He couldn't help but wonder. And he also worried briefly for the prince. The sunnuvabeetch had mentioned that they turned the prince into a demon, yet when he had seen him he was his regular self. Powerful and pure.

Val had something to do with it, he was sure. She seemed happy, that they'd thwarted his plans. But what exactly did she do? And what did he mean by he had a way to turn Valemnians into demons? The Twelve had thought it was perhaps a demonic disease attacking only the guardians, but if they had truly gotten to the prince...

A knock resonated throughout the room. Couldn't people see he was in his private quarters?

He opened the door, only to see a fiery figure blocking the doorway.

"A-Avaro? What- how is this- this is impossible. I never- I never summoned you..."

A soft female voice answered, in his head. Tis Ritha you speak to now. Is Avaro your familiar? Tis a pity. He always was a fool. And arrogant he was as well. Why he even asked for my paw! Can you imagine?

Ritha! Don't be so rude!

Sorry Lady. Its just Avaro was quite rude to me a century ago. I do not forget these things. She responded, obviously miffed. She made her way inside, and settled herself on the bed.

Corvan was flabbergasted, to say the least. The fifth-ranker had gotten herself a familiar? So quickly? But even he had to devote countless hours to studying all the spells and rituals to ensure he didnt make a fatal mistake. He was impressed with Valeriana's way with the sword, but this was almost unrealistic.

His betrothed gave him a bemused smile as she ruffled her fur. "I just found her, ya know. Out in the garden all wounded and stuff. I offered her my services and she in return bonded with me, just like that. It was pretty cool actually. Like there was a bunch of light and suddenly candles appeared from nowhere and like made this weird figure eight and we pressed foreheads together. ..it was basically cooler then movies."

He attempted to curl his lip in disgust, but failed and ended up laughing suddenly.

"You- you just waltz into Valemnia and single-handedly become the most mysterious, powerful woman I have ever met. Then you go and get yourself a familiar in a matter of minutes, where I had to spend months hunting for all the spells and rituals. You really are an unusual girl." He doubled back laughing, unable to stop. He laughed and laughed, and the girl suddenly grew shy, and remembered their previous argument. She immediately sought out Emilyrse and worriedly asked, Does your brother normally laugh? Uncontrollably?

Oh no! Mother feared this would happen. All those years of bottling up his feelings so no one could hurt him, and you come and shatter the glass. Next week he'll be sobbing like an old maid reading a tragic love story at midnight half-drunk.

Well, Is there anything I can do? It's kinda creeping me out.

No, sorry. Maybe laugh with him?

I'll try. Tell your mother!

Okay. Bye!

With that the child withdrew her mind from her aura and ran off speedily to find her mother.

After a few anxious minutes where the betrothed laughed emptily, Emilyrse returned with her mother in tow.

"Oh dear son. Whatever am I going to do now? Hmm, perhaps a bit of tea, the healer should be called. Yes, yes..." she continued mumbling to herself, failing to notice the huge furry lion napping at the foot of the bed. Ritha had gotten bored of waiting, and not desiring to reveal her healing abilities just yet, she decided to nap.

An hour later, Corvan returned from the lost, but he no longer laughed and instead was rather solemn, even for his reputation as the Cold Prince. Everyone stayed away from him for the rest of the day, and Valeriana returned to her room to search for the box.
