As I continue my walk down the dreary halls I come upon a wing of patient rooms. Most of the rooms had a bed and a desk. The windows in all the rooms had metal bars over them. The rooms felt like a prison cell, rather than a place someone would call home.
I walk into another room, but this one is different. It has toys in it. Dolls and other small toys lay scattered on the floor.
This must have been a little girls room. I pick up a music box from the floor and examine the left behind item. It probably once gave a little girl so much joy. Maybe the only source of happiness she had, while she stayed here.
"You shouldn't touch things that aren't yours" A small voice startles me
I turn around and see a small girl in a dripping wet nightgown. She had red hair and green eyes. Freckles were scattered across her porcelain like skin.
"Oh, I'm sorry. I'm Talyor" I say smiling down at the small girl
"I have to go" the girl waves, and before I know it she disappears right in front of my eyes
One thing stood out to me, when she waved. Around her wrists were scars. Probably from being tied down.
After thinking about what had just happened, realization hits me. That was the girl from the patient folder, Lillian.
This only makes me want to wonder the building more. I wanted to learn more about this old building with such a dark history.
Was she a ghost? Or was my mind just playing a trick on me?
I'm probably just imagining things, I think to myself as I continue my journey into the building.
I pass all the rooms, each giving off its own emotion.
I soon find a big open room. There are long tables, lined with plates and drinking glasses. This must be the dining hall.
All the plates still sat in their original place, a layer of dust coating the utensils. It was as if this asylum was stopped in time.
I walk down the long table and imagine what eating in here would be like. Was it loud? Each patient talking or having fits. Were nurses constantly attempting to calm down the room?
Or was it silent? No one daring to speak as the nurses walked around the room, making sure there was no trouble.
I pull out a seat and sit in the wooden chair. I look around the empty room that once held so many patients at once.
I grab the glass from the table and once again feel as though and electric bolt has gone through me.
I'm in the dining hall, but it's different. The ceiling tiles are all in tact. The plates no longer have dust coating them. Patients are eating, only few speak. The only thing heard throughout the room is quiet murmurs and the clanking of silverware.
A small girl is making a commotion in the corner. It's Lillian, the girl from earlier. A nurse is attempting to force feed her the rest of her food.
"Come on, sweetheart! Be a good girl!" The nurse says in a sickly sweet voice
"But I'm full" The girl whines
The nurse ignores her comment and continues to push food into the girls mouth.
Lillian can no longer take the food, and she throws up. The nurse is outraged and jumps up from her seat. Her face is full of rage.
She grabs Lillian by the hair and starts to drag her out of the dining hall, gritting her teeth.
A boy, a blonde boy, jumps into action. It's the boy who had the lobotomy. The scar on his forehead was evident.
"Don't you dare punish her! That was your fault!" He growls at the nurseThe nurse drops the girls hair, the girl instantly running from the nurse. Lillian looks back at the blonde boy, giving him a silent thank you. He simply nods as the small girl continues running from the dining hall.
The nurse yells for backup and says she has an aggressive patient.
Soon there are around five nurses taking hold of the blonde haired boy and dragging him away. Luke tries to fight them off, but it was no use. There was just to many of them.
"Maybe a night in the dark room will teach you to keep your nose out of other people's business" The nurse hisses before throwing the boy into a room.
The room has no windows and the door is locked, before the nurse walks away.
The next morning they come to get the boy out of the room. His eyes have bags under them and his hair stuck up at odd angles.
He goes to the dining hall to get breakfast. As he sits down he starts to eat his food. If you could call it that. It was a gray substance, looking like slop.
He's soon interrupted by someone sitting next to him. He looks over to find the girl from yesterday.
"Thank you, for stopping her" Lillian says quietly
"No problem" The boy smiles at the girl and goes back to eating.
"I'm Lillian" The girl holds out her hand for the boy to shake
"I'm Luke" He says shaking the girls hand
I finally snap out of the dream like trance I was in. I get up from the dinning hall and decide to head home. It was beginning to get late, and I had been here for hours.
I walk towards the front doors. I attempt to open them but they don't budge. I begin to panic as I bang on the doors with my fists.
"You can't leave until you learn all the wrong done here" Lillian's sweet voice is heard saying
I abruptly turn around and I'm met with Lilly's green eyes.
"What do you mean? I'll come back I promise" I say, holding out my pinky to the little girl
"Everyone breaks their promises" the little girls says, looking at her shoes
She disappears and I'm left standing in the dark. Looks like I'm staying the night.
