I begin my walk to Jacks house. When I arrive I'm shocked by his house. It was humongous! I walk up the long driveway and knock on the door. A thin woman, looking to be in her thirties, opens the door.
"Hello? Can I help you?" She says, looking at me confused.
"Um, yes. I'm looking for Jack Mintz."
"Oh, come in. Are you one of his new patients? Jacks my husband, I believe he's in his office. It's the third door on the right." She explains before leaving me at the entrance to the huge home. I begin my walk to his office. As I walk down the hallway there are family portraits hanging along the walls. The final portrait is of the Doctor. How could this family be proud of this monster?
When I finally reach the door to his office I stand there for a moment, my nerves getting the best of me. Finally, I take a deep breath and raise my hand to knock on the door. However, my hand never reaches the surface of the door. The door swings open revealing a tall man with glasses perched on the bridge of his nose.
"Hello!" I say, giving my best smile.
"Oh, hello. Who are you? A new patient?" He asks, removing his glasses.
"Um, no. I'm actually interest in knowing more about your grandfather."
"What is this for?" He asks, looking me up and down. Probably thinking I've just escaped from the nut house because of the way I look. I guess I technically did though...
"Um, it's for the-uh the paper! I'm doing an article on him!" I quickly say, trying not to stutter while lying to the man.
"Well, please come in!" He says, opening the door wider and walking back inside the room.
The room is large and the walls filled with different certificates and degrees. There's a marble fireplace to the left, looking as though it's never been used. There's a desk in the corner of the room. It's filled with paperwork and on the very edge of the desk is a tiny picture of the man and his wife, along with a young boy.
Jack takes a seat behind his desk, and motions for me to take a seat in front of him.
"So, what do you want to know?" He says, giving me his full attention.
"Well, I was just wondering why your grandfather is looked at as a hero. He was a monster. He tortured innocent people, and didn't do anything to help them! Yet he's like the town hero or something!" I say, diving right into what I wanted to say.
Jack stands up and puts his hands on his desk, leaning towards me.
"My grandfather was a great man, and I won't let you tarnish his name!" He bellowed
"Your grandfather was an awful man!" I yell, now standing up myself
"You know nothing!"
"Yes, I do! I've been to the asylum! I've read your grandfathers journal. I know more than you could imagine! Your grandfathers patients can't rest! Your grandfather has been rewarded for torturing innocent people!" I yell
"You stay away from that place. Stay away from me." He says, opening the door and motioning me to leave.
"The public will know the truth. The lost souls in that hospital deserve it." I say as I walk past him and back out into the hall.
"You'll stay away from this if you know what's good for you!" Jack yells down the hall at me. I hear his door slam behind him.
I stomp down the hall. I stop when I reach the doctors portrait. I stand there and look at it for a moment. I then proceed to punch a hole right through the face of the portrait.
I continue to stomp out of the house. I will help these spirits find rest, even if it kills me.
