(Jordan's POV)

The air was crisp. My nose was numb

and my cheeks were bright red from the chilly October air. The streets of this town are so quiet now. Every step I took with my brown combats made an echoing sound. I haven't seen another living human besides my sister for months. The town was dead. Everything, and everyone was dead.

It's been almost a year since this

happened to the human race. No one was expecting it. It just happened. I can't sleep at night without my knife by my side. I laughed darkly at the thought, that almost a year ago my biggest problem was passing a Math test and wondering if my crush liked me back. Not anymore. I have to worry about finding food for my sister and I. Make sure we have a safe place to sleep at night. Make sure we don't get sick. Make sure "they" don't eat our brains out of our skulls. It's a lot for a 16 year old city girl who was absolutely in love with Justin Bieber almost a year ago to handle. Thank God my father used to live in the woods. He taught me everything I know about shooting my bow and gun...now he is probably dead along with the rest of my family.

I walked through the small town of New Foundland, Pennsylvania. I was going on my usual once a week route to the run down grocery store to get canned foods and water. I saw none of the "dead", but just in case I held my bow close. If I had to kill, I would have to make it quiet. Noise attracts them.

I walked quickly through the broken blood stained glass window of the store. That's when I heard a bunch of things in the back of the store fall and a faint low voice cuss, "shit". I froze.
