What just happened?

Chapter 1

My life has been a little crazy since my parents divorce. I haven't been able to think clearly, like at all. My grades are a clear sign of this, all of my used to be A's are now C's and if my parents even cared about me and my life then I would be in big trouble, but they fail to even remember I exist.

The voice of my English teacher, Mr. Gregory, suddenly jolts me back into reality. "Grace, what answer did you get for number eleven?"

"I forgot to do my homework, sorry." I only half-lied.

"Again?"

"Yea, I've been a little out of it, this week." I didn't want to have to explain to the whole 9th grade about my family problems. The bell rings, telling all of us that we are able to go.

"Do page 120 for homework, and Grace make sure to do page 119, also."

"Ok," I said knowing I wouldn't do any of it. Right now, it was time for my favorite time of the day, lunch. I scan the lunchroom to find where my group of friends were sitting. I found them sitting at a table near the stage, my two best friends, Amanda and Emily, were sitting there waiting on me. I quickly grabbed some food that sounded good to me and got in line to pay. Just as I sat down, so did my best guy friend, Luke. To be honest I actually saw him as more than just a friend.

As I was eating, Amanda and Emily went up to go get their food. So it was just Luke and me sitting at the table, honestly it was a little bit awkward. Luke broke the silence first saying, "So, Grace, I have wanted to tell you something for a long time and haven't been able to get you alone, but now seems like a pretty good time to tell you that I like you, and not just as a friend."

"What?" I stammered. "How long have you liked me in this way?"

"It has been a few years, I just didn't want to make things awkward between us, so what do you say will you be my girlfriend?"

These were the words I had been waiting for six years ever since he came to our school in the 3rd grade. "yes." I said trying to control my excitement, but I couldn't help but being happy the entire rest of the day.
