Maya's POV.
We have been back in NYC for a couple days. Josh and I are sitting in the Matthew's guest room just hanging out. "We should tell my parents." I said referring to my mom and Shawn. Now that they were married I considered Shawn my dad. (Just pretend they were married a little bit before the book or something 😂) "You're right. I am just a little nervous." I grabbed Josh's hand. "I think it'll be fine but I'm kind of nervous too." All of a sudden Josh stood up. "Let's go." I was startled by what he said. "Wait, like right now?" I asked. Josh nodded. "We have to tell them at some point so why not right now? I mean all we are doing is watching a movie we have already seen." I sighed. "I guess you're right. I was enjoying our alone time though." "We will have plenty of alone time in our lives." Josh replied kissing me. I smiled releasing the kiss. Josh drove us to my house and when we got there I looked at Josh nervously before opening the door. My parents were sitting on the couch watching television. "Hey kiddo, what are you doing home early? And why is Josh with you?" Shawn asked, pausing the T.V. "Well, actually that's kind of why I am here." I started. "I um, just wanted to let you know that Josh... and I are... dating." I finished grabbing Josh's hand. "Oh." My mom reacted simply. "Josh... Is this true?" Shawn questioned. "Yes, I love your daughter very much." Josh answered holding me close. I smiled and blushed at that. "Isn't he 3 years older than you?" My mom brought up. "Yeah, but that doesn't matter." I responded. "It matters Maya, I don't want you dating a college guy. Especially not Riley's uncle." As my mom said that I started tearing up. I thought she would support me. "But I love him mom." Josh pulled me closer. "Maya, you're 15! You don't even know what love is!" My mom yelled. Shawn put his hand on my mom's shoulder. "Katy, please calm down." He told her quietly. "No, I can't calm down. Maya I forbid you from dating Josh." I lost it. "No, I can't. Mom, I know what love is. I know that I love Josh. Josh makes me forget that dad left. Josh makes me forget that you used to work all the time and barely had time for me. Josh makes me feel important and loved. Josh makes me feel amazing and if you can't accept that, then I'm sorry but I am never going to leave him." As I finished I turned to Josh and cried into his shoulder. "Maya-" I cut my mom off. "I don't want to hear it right now." With that Josh and I left my house. I can't believe my mom reacted like that.
