Ok, this is a minor slip-up that we all can make!
For easy memorization, just know that when using a there must be a consonant (see next chapter if this term is confusing, or look it up, whatever floats your rootbeer) as the first letter of the next word.
For an, only vowels (a, e, i, o, u) or vowel sounds.
So:
A paperclip
An airplane
An elephant
A dinosaur
A monkey
An angry giraffe
A naughty Nannie
