His other side

I woke up pretty early even though I do not have classes. I head down stairs, only to see mom preparing breakfast and dad reading some papers. I smiled

"Good morning mom, dad" they look up as they felt my presence. I sat on my usual spot that is across my mother, as I put some bacon and egg on my plate.

"You're smiling. You seem to have a good night, how was the party?" my mom asked as she sit as well.

"It was surprisingly fun mom." I poured some milk on my glass

"Good. So you finally made some friends?" my dad said as he put down the papers he was reading.

"Yeah, I made a few." Xandra, Keith, and Nathan's face suddenly popped into my mind

"How was it?" dad leaned in putting his hand on his chin

"New. Different? I don't know" I answered as I took a bite in my food

She smiled at me "So what did you do?" It may seem that my parents are interrogating me but they're not..well, okay a little I think but I actually like it.

"Uh... just the normal things I guess, I talked a lot, drink a little and d-dance."

"Dance!" I looked up to see Katie in her pajamas. "Am I dreaming? She sat beside mom. "Aw."

"Sweetie, what did you do?" dad asked glancing at Katie

"I pinched myself to check if I was still sleeping, but I'm not, so it is actually true?" I can't blame Katie, mom and dad to look surprised. Because before I avoid dancing whatever it takes. I always break down when I'm doing it so they didn't really push me. It was too painful.

I didn't know what to say to Katie because I honestly don't know why I agreed to dance. Maybe because it was a dare. Yeah, I never backed down a dare, that's it.

'Keep saying that to yourself, because you could have just turned around and said no.' A little voice in my head said.

"Were you drunk?"

"No."

"Katie, honey, couldn't you just be happy to your sister. Change is good." she was smiling so as dad.

"It's not like that mom, I'm just a little bit shocked." Katie smiled at me before stuffing her plate with pancakes.

"I feel like we need to celebrate."

"Dad it's not a big deal." I insisted, I still need to go to my physical therapist my leg isn't that fully healed. And I think I was just carried away last night that's why I danced.

I knew my parents that they will not let this go. And this celebration isn't necessary but I eventually give in, there's nothing much I could do.

"After breakfast, we're going to go. Jade could you take care of the house and Katie? Nora isn't here, she has some emergency to attend to."

"Of course mom, we'll be okay." Being the eldest this should is not surprising, actually I'm quite used to it every time mom and dad are out I'm the one responsible to watch Katie. I love my alone time with Katie for a matter of fact.

We continued to eat breakfast while we listen to Katie's endless stories about her new school. But then I heard my mom's phone ringing and that's their cue. They need to go.

Katie and I stood at the door watching mom and dad drove by. I made a small wave while Katie gives away flying kisses. When the car was out of sight I looked down at my sister whose standing beside me.
